You take time to inform a distinguished physician that the heart pumps blood. I'm sure he had no idea. If you believe that his stance can be refuted on logical grounds, great, we would love to hear it. If you find it necessary to slant the meaning of an overwhelmingly ubiquitous word used to describe emotion/intuition/soul/morality/identity etc. than your argument is clearly lacking.
@TheGunslinger91 care to logically explain why chopra and o'reilly both accuse atheists (like dawkins) of getting 'too emotional' as if emotion is a bad thing, but then turn around 2 minutes later and use 'the heart' (you've admitted that strictly means emotion) as a reason to have their own faith?
@C0ct0pusPrime Thanks for your reply. Make no mistake, I am not defending O'reilly (his 'arguments' are frankly embarrassing) but the exchange about emotion did not imply that emotion was bad, but highlighted the fact that some atheists such as Dawkins see fit to project an arrogant attitude that insults the intelligence of believers rather than convincing them that their belief is unreasonable. Also, I did not say the heart was strictly emotion, but emotion/intuition/soul/morality/identity etc.
@TheGunslinger91 not to be an ass, but you're just tap-dancing around the point like chopra is. you think the heart is "emotion/intuition/soul/morality/identity etc.", i think its an organ meant to pump blood, especially to the brain, which gives us the consciousness to even contemplate these absurdities.
@C0ct0pusPrime My point was that I'm not mistaken on the function of the heart, and neither is Dr. Chopra; but to dodge the meaning of the metaphor to make him out to be an archaic-minded idiot is not a legitimate criticism. If someone said I had guts (courage) I wouldn't argue the digestive function of my intestines. Any believer (or dis-believer) should be able to accept challenges to his ideas, but degrading the intellectual value of the man instead of the idea is not productive. Thanks.
@TheGunslinger91 fine, but my point is that the heart's actual function, not its metaphorical meaning. if you said you felt bravery in your gut, i would say that what you actually have is courage in your head...your gut has nothing to do with it, as your heart has nothing to do with "emotion/intuition/soul/morality/identity".
not to mention the hypocrisy of saying emotion is bad when atheists use it, but is essential to feeling 'spiritual' or whatever.

It's kind of unfortunate that Deepak Chopra isn't a total moron. For a smart guy he is a total dumbass. And BTW O'Reiley, science has manufactured cells right about 2007. So BAM!
@hevyAccel i think it's his "tide goes in tide comes out" argument, that left dawkins to question the evolutionoury theory. coz, he found out that some humans are not fully evolved yet.
Science can't prove that there isn't cocaine in the balloons that they sell to the kids at the grocery store up the road. Does that mean I'm gonna put a gun up to that fucker and steal his helium tank? Hell no!
(But that fucker better start charging less now that I know better!)
Bill-o is calling someone else "dishonest"? He's amazing, he really is, seeing as he managed to say that with a straight face. Does anyone think that Bill-o actually believes in his god? To me it seems implausible. If I believed in the god that Bill-o claims he does, brazen, bare-faced lies and sleazy dishonesty of the lowest kind on national television would be things I really wouldn't want in my repertoire with the Big Brother watching my every word and move.
Actually...I have a PhD in science( nanotech) and I know NO ONE, NO ONE, including noble laureates and brilliant people who believe in such BS man made religions and deities. Collins is an exception and to us, he has a serious brain wiring malfunction. Something is seriously WRONG with parts of his brain. Collins's belief in christianity is in EXACT opposition to his scientific beliefs and scientific facts as we know it. He is a defected product of science.
@jubinliam Is it really defective? I think it may be more along the lines of compartmentalization, which many people are really good at. He was probably raised to apply different standards to most of the world than to his beliefs and as such can be skeptical, scientific, rational etc. about some things while ignoring those same standards when it comes to his religion.
@gagaplexTrue compartmentalization is especially common among many suffering from mental illness and/or childhood trauma. But what doesn't add up is his SCIENTIFIC LOGICAL CRITICAL THINKING training and his religiosity. I was raised in Iran and surrounded up to my neck with religion and I know of NO ONE in the scientific field who is religious, most in fact are atheist such as myself (incognito when we are in Iran of course). Belief in faith is the antithesis of scientific thinking.
@gagaplex In fact to us in Iran who have scientific training and KNOW the region/its people and history among whom all Ibrahimic holymen were from, the most common sense and OBVIOUS explanation for Ibrahimic faith is the highly common condition of Schizophrenia ( comes from inbreeding, very common in mid east). Couple that with extensive drug and shroom use which DEFINES this region to this day and BINGO, you have Judaism, Christianity& Islam ( & mother of them Zoroastrianism).
@gagaplex & I wish the explanation wasn't this simple...this is the Occam Razor of it all.Mental Illness + drug use and nothing else. These two phenomenon defined our beliefs ever since we had fire and shelter & could actually sit and think. In fact, MOST notable people who made a difference and left names for themselves throughout the ages in our entire history of men most likely, and in many cases, without a doubt, suffered from some sorta mental illness which exacerbated by various toxins.
Think with your heart - what if you get a heart transplant? Will you now start thinking like the person from whom you got your heart? Does this mean that you could suddenly become an atheist?
Its funny how they try to reverse their positions by claiming to base their beliefs on reason&science while claiming that the atheists are the exact opposite. I would love to hear a psychologists take on it.
Sure a designer might have made the universe but
1. Who was the designer? Thor, Ra, Vishnu, Yaweh, ? Theres over 2000 to choose from.
2. poor explanation since it replaced one unknown with another.
Bill O'Reilly is a MORON. Anybody that can't understand what causes the tide to rise and fall is a fucking moron unless they are just learning about it like in first grade or something.
I use to think you were wasting you time in making these videos but now I've come to realize that we need people like to hold line for I do not have the patience to deal with morons and religitards like these. Please keep up the good work and May You Be Touch By His Noodley Appendage and Basque In The Glow of Her Holiness, The IPU. R'amen
O'Reilly tilts the fuck outta me. He's so damn insecure in his questioning that he can't even let people answer...he's always trying to answer for them so they don't say something he disagrees with.
And nice character assassination on Dawkins while he's not around to retort.
"Man's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Universe which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. God has not been proven not to exist, therefore he must exist. "
I guess O'Reilly never read Article 11 of the "Treaty of Tripoli" which was signed by President John Adams, and unanimously signed by the Senate before sending it to him. Also, I guess that most Conservatives/Christians missed the part of the Constitution about no religious tests.
Keep up the great work C0ct0pus.
Go to avalon*law*yale*edu/18th_century/bar1796t*asp#art11 to see how this nation was not built on Christian Values. And no, there are no 10 commandments in the Supreme Court.
look up leanord mladinow vs. deepak chopra. a physicist tries to point out he's full of shit and of course chopra continues to be a belligerent fucktard with his nonsensical vague bullshit.
@K03nS You're probably right, but that just makes him that much more detestable. Intentionally keeping the ignorant within their ignorance should be a crime of the highest magnitude, especially when it's motivated by greed.
In that exact "ambush" interview he bitches about, Deepak admits himself that he uses "quantum mechanics" as buzz words to sell his demonstrable bullshit, now he claims Dawkins uses "science to camouflage his bigotry"
lol I lost my shit right there, this guy is a fucking clown
-to their names. But the older I get the more truth I see in the reality of it all. That no matter what you know, no matter how much you have read the Britanica encyclopedia, or anything really. The real pickle is this. Do you understand it. And more importantly it's what you DO with all the stuff you've learned. The application of it all. And it shows
You can know everything there is to know of the construct of RNA/DNA etc, but still believe something is real based on faith.
I thought exactly the same thing. What a bunch of fuck-tards.
But that's why this pinhead is on Oreiley's show. He's a fellow fuck-tard who opposes reason. What's worse. He uses science to reaffirm that you don't need evidence at all, rather you need to rely on faith. How can one argue with such puerile thinking.I used to feel belittled by people of the scientific mind, or at least, people who are educated well enough to publish books and have certain degrees to-
Just because you don't CURRENTLY understanding something, it DOESN'T mean that you should fill in the gaps with god. Sheeeesh. For example, people back in the day saw comments for the 1st time in the sky and they didn't know what it was, so they said that this flying commet in the sky was 'a sign from god'.... (they filled in with god) ... later scientist proved in was the work of gravity... the more they fill in with god and the more science disproves them later on, the more stupid they look.
In fact you tube "what the bleep do we know" its long but will explain almost everthing.. Also very new is "ancient aliens the cygnus mystery" they jus found out how human evolved so quickly 40000 years ago..
Before u bash deepak as a slurpie sellin jesuse freak you should do some more reaserch i havent belived in a christian god.. Since i was old enuf to say.. That cant b right. Watch the movie " what the bleep do we know" thats what deepak belives in not god. Even this video he never says god.. He said an omnipresent factor that we connect with. Watch the video kid.
@jjk810jwu he's a snake oil salesman and he tries to keep from getting to specific with his faith as to keep it mysterious enough to defend. but even in this video he says that 'jesus and other messiah's/prophet's came to a spiritual level where they could "talk" or just "understand" the deity in which he believes.
who knows what the fuck this asshole believes, from what i've seen he's too slimey to get a hold of...unlike o'reilly who is retarded and quite blunt about it.
@C0ct0pusPrime If you read his book How To Know God you will find out that Deepak is an atheist. He doesn't believe in any deity. When he says god he is referring to consciousness. He also didn't call Jesus a messiah. He definitely isn't a Christian and I've seen him debate Christians. He thinks the religion is dangerous. Hes written like 70 books so his beliefs are pretty easy to know.
you're right, he called jesus a 'great prophet'...sounds like a real atheist to me!
"Hes written like 70 books so his beliefs are pretty easy to know."
right, because what i want to do when i find a dishonest hack like chopra is spend every free moment buying and reading his bullshit...just like i'm sure o'reilly spends every free moment reading dawkins...
@bizzyb0ne017 "When he says god he is referring to consciousness." Still a form of god. Meaning he is not an atheist. He is a theist or a deist. Depending on what else he believes.
@NathanWubs Thats not true. God is a supreme "being". Consciousness is not a being. By your definition even Richard Dawkins would be a theist because the big bang would be his god.
@NathanWubs I do have a problem being called a theist. I do not believe in god. You however, do not know the definition of a theist. You are the one that struck out, open a dictionary.
Strip away the pseudoscientific mumbo-jumbo and Chopra is just another anti-science apologist for Intelligent Design Creationism. He professes belief in a deity in this video, and predictably, his definition is every bit as fuzzy and indistinct as most christians'.
@methinxaweezil Not once does he profess belief in a deity in this video, you just lied. He goes out of his way to avoid professing belief in a deity because he does not believe in a deity. He is also very far from anti-science. He loves science and thinks its great. You are either completely retarded or a very dishonest liar. Take your pick.
5:10 "…I think there is an active source, an intelligent source that is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient…"
Chopra just defined "Deity". He could've simply said "yes" to O'Reilly's question since his "active source" has all the attributes of your average deity. It's no secret that Chopra is an apologist for intelligent design creationism and here he exhibits the typical semantic tap dancing around the issue that is characteristic of that ilk-- the more vague, the better.
@jjk810jwu I am pretty sure Chopra's belief may come from certain drug induced hallucinations ( or brain induced). I myself experienced some crazy stuff in hospital after I was given serious pain killers ( opiates). I am SURE those who have any spiritual belief based on their personal experiences must have experienced them this way ( or they have certain mental illness, such as Schizophrenia, common, and very common in the middle east specifically). Personal exp however doesn't make it a reality
...it seems as if O'Reilly - even while having a good laugh with Deepak - was not completely happy with the round about science-proves-my-belief hippy philosophy of Deepak. seems O'Reilly was only looking for the answer he already has programmed into his thinking.
haha i love how bill all smugly is like "they haven't been able to create one human cell in the laboratory" and thinks that's the big slam dunk/checkmate for jesus or something.
"The fact that we live, that we exist is a miracle. Why do we even need to go beyond that?" ~Deepak Chopra
The #1 thing that bothers me the most about this is how these people with this mindset are so incapable of having an idea that's original. It's 2011,and people still don't understand science. <--I seriously hope you guys don't do this. I'd rather a scientist be wrong a million times and eventually find the answer than have one person make a guess and try to convince everyone it's true.
Notice how Bill O'Reilly subtly moved the goalposts about the creation of life. Notice how he said science has never made one HUMAN cell, when for the longest time one of the standard practices of theists was saying that science has never created LIFE.
Except they did.
So, instead of examining his own beliefs, Billo now has the measuring stick that science has to create a HUMAN cell. Total fail.
perhaps THIS video should have been titled "Enemies of Reason"...

To me it seems implausible. Collins's belief in christianity is in EXACT opposition to his scientific beliefs and scientific facts as we know it. He is a defected product of science.
jubinliam 3 months ago
@jubinliam Is it really defective? I think it may be more along the lines of compartmentalization, which many people are really good at. He was probably raised to apply different standards to most of the world than to his beliefs and as such can be skeptical, scientific, rational etc. about some things while ignoring those same standards when it comes to his religion.
gagaplex 3 months ago
@gagaplexTrue compartmentalization is especially common among many suffering from mental illness and/or childhood trauma. But what doesn't add up is his SCIENTIFIC LOGICAL CRITICAL THINKING training and his religiosity. I was raised in Iran and surrounded up to my neck with religion and I know of NO ONE in the scientific field who is religious, most in fact are atheist such as myself (incognito when we are in Iran of course). Belief in faith is the antithesis of scientific thinking.
jubinliam 3 months ago
@gagaplex In fact to us in Iran who have scientific training and KNOW the region/its people and history among whom all Ibrahimic holymen were from, the most common sense and OBVIOUS explanation for Ibrahimic faith is the highly common condition of Schizophrenia ( comes from inbreeding, very common in mid east). Couple that with extensive drug and shroom use which DEFINES this region to this day and BINGO, you have Judaism, Christianity& Islam ( & mother of them Zoroastrianism).
jubinliam 3 months ago
@gagaplex & I wish the explanation wasn't this simple...this is the Occam Razor of it all.Mental Illness + drug use and nothing else. These two phenomenon defined our beliefs ever since we had fire and shelter & could actually sit and think. In fact, MOST notable people who made a difference and left names for themselves throughout the ages in our entire history of men most likely, and in many cases, without a doubt, suffered from some sorta mental illness which exacerbated by various toxins.

C0ct0pusPrime 3 months ago 12
@C0ct0pusPrime If you read his book How To Know God you will find out that Deepak is an atheist. He doesn't believe in any deity. When he says god he is referring to consciousness. He also didn't call Jesus a messiah. He definitely isn't a Christian and I've seen him debate Christians. He thinks the religion is dangerous. Hes written like 70 books so his beliefs are pretty easy to know.

Strip away the pseudoscientific mumbo-jumbo and Chopra is just another anti-science apologist for Intelligent Design Creationism. He professes belief in a deity in this video, and predictably, his definition is every bit as fuzzy and indistinct as most christians'.
methinxaweezil 3 months ago
@methinxaweezil Not once does he profess belief in a deity in this video, you just lied. He goes out of his way to avoid professing belief in a deity because he does not believe in a deity. He is also very far from anti-science. He loves science and thinks its great. You are either completely retarded or a very dishonest liar. Take your pick.
bizzyb0ne017 3 months ago
@bizzyb0ne017
5:10 "…I think there is an active source, an intelligent source that is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient…"
Chopra just defined "Deity". He could've simply said "yes" to O'Reilly's question since his "active source" has all the attributes of your average deity. It's no secret that Chopra is an apologist for intelligent design creationism and here he exhibits the typical semantic tap dancing around the issue that is characteristic of that ilk-- the more vague, the better.
methinxaweezil 2 months ago
@jjk810jwu I am pretty sure Chopra's belief may come from certain drug induced hallucinations ( or brain induced). I myself experienced some crazy stuff in hospital after I was given serious pain killers ( opiates). I am SURE those who have any spiritual belief based on their personal experiences must have experienced them this way ( or they have certain mental illness, such as Schizophrenia, common, and very common in the middle east specifically). Personal exp however doesn't make it a reality

Total fail.
