Gee, the studio vocal wasn't broken; why'd you have to F it up with improvising in the best part of the song? I'm constantly amazed by vocalists who attempt to garner 'artistic integrity' by improvising a ld. vocal in live situations so that they can come off as being 'spontaneously edgy'. This is a brilliant piece of music, and it's not as if he'd, at this point, played it for yrs. and needed to inject new life in to it. Other greats are guilty too; Rundgren, Stills, etc.
@vampyros1 I dunno, it kinda looks like maybe he forgot the words or something. A few times I can see him laughing to himself. Maybe a bit too much Johnny Walker?
@jackhitts08 No, he never forgot one word as he was singing. He was laughing at the words he created because he was getting a kick out of them. Elvis is a word man, and you can believe that the lyrics he creates are as forgotten to him as the face of a child to his parent. He's too brilliant to ever be the type to forget the words he's so cleverly and thoughtfully crafted together.
