Here is my thought, you might have a different one but this is mine. Why don't they, you still listening, why don't they make the body taller and, keep listening, and lose the damn T bar. If they mane the cockpit taller and raised the landing rods than you could lose the T bar without heads being chopped off. I think it would make it look SOOOO much nicer.
@94eyung R22, R44 and the new R66 arnt about looks, there primary role and function is as a cheap but efficient charter/sight seeing helicopter with the R22 primarily ridden solo as a cattle muster machine. An R22 retails around the 300-400 thousand dollars (thats the 2 seater piston engine version of this) Its sturdy reliable and efficient. The people that own and buy these are not interested in looks. There after a cost effective and practical solution for the buisness.
I'll bet this becomes the world's best selling turbine helicopter. Not a typical, streamlined, design you'd expect in a turbine aircraft but I'm sure it's well engineered.
I have every ounce of respect for Robinson but retro styling is cool when it comes to furniture... or cars... but a million dollar helicopter - c'mon make it look something other than the coolest thing for 1958.
@foxtrot789 The design isn't retro, it's cheap. And I don't mean cheap as in lame, cheap as in inexpensive. Frank Robinson is a brilliant man and this helicopter will become the next Bell 206. Just wait a few years and see. Robinson Helicopters do something that no one else has been able to do, inexpensive and reliable. Now you can add powerful too. :)
@helipilot3333 I hear ya, but... it just looks like something found at Disneyland's Tomorrowland. It's just my opinion, that, if you spend that much on a toy, you'd probably be willing to spend a few bucks more to have a tad of style. Regardless, great aircraft! :)
@caioghiotto About competition eurocopters and bell they are, robison helicopters are most economical price of them bel and euro the most peformace and style you can travel, awesome piece of machine especially this r66.
@caioghiotto The R44 II already can outrun a death ranger, and can lift just about as much on the hook. Most companies look for the oldest S/N machines they can get because they are lighter. A jet box can't be sent out for a 100 hrs with out an engineer usually. The Robby can. With a jet buggy you are on either temp or torque limits. Unless you have a janitrol heater you will freeze your ass in a 2x6, the new 66 has heated seats (now there is some forward thinking).
probably the nicest looking Robinson and that is saying allot. Probably expensive as hell. Don't see it being that successful though. The appeal of the robinson is for the flight schools. Someone looking for a turbine will most probably get a Bell or similar, its simply a more confortable platform. This might see business in the tour industry though. In fact I bet my bottom dollar that is where most of these are going to.
Personally, I find the Robinson R-Series better looking than the Jet-Ranger, but I don't think they can be a replacement that easily. I don't know about the operating parameters, but the structual intregrity of a Jet-Ranger looks much higher.
I wouldn't waste my money on a helicopter like this. Why not buy a 500 or a Jetranger and get your moneys worth. The R66 might be cheap but after 2000 hours you have a pile of metal!!!!!
Well for one, it has a lot more range than a 500 -- the R66 can stay airborne for 1.5 times as long as a 500. Not quite the gas hog that the 500 is, but has similar performance otherwise.
I think they are like ultra lights but helicopters! May be its just a personal prefrence. I have talk to many people who have flowen r22's and 300's and they think the 300's are a much better machine! and i have done about the same amount of time in each i think the 300 is much better
How much ???
