According to Mr Corey Taylor, he decided to change his voice during Subliminal Verses due to alcohol addiction, and then for All Hope is Gone, he wanted to use the same style he used in the earlier Albums. I have to say though, his voice improved a lot in 2011.

@666joinme 1 mic, 1 trigger. It can be tough to get two drums to sound identical. It's just easier to get a consistent sound with a double pedal on a single drum. His kit is so big though, having just a single bass drum would look stupid.

Guys like Derrek Roddy use double pedals because the second bass drum is tuned differently with it's own pedal.
