I remember driving back to Kelowna from Penticton and seeing the fire burning on the other side of Okanagan Lake. Very sad. The pictures accurately showed how horrible this was
this was the worste time ever. It was tough to go through but luckily no lives were lost. I was stranded on a road because fires had started on each end of it. Nicklebacks video so far away uses live video footage of this fire.
I bet ur thinking of a different fire, stranded on a road doesnt make sense in this fire, and the footage from nickelbacks video isnt this one either.
That has to be one of the craziest summers the okanogan has EVER had. i dont live anywhere near kelowna i live 5 hrs away, but all my moms side of the family was evacuated from there homes because they all live in kelowna. my grandmothers house also burnt down and she coudnt get enuf stuff to evacuate with. that was a ver sad summer for kelowna and the okanogan
I live in Winfield, just outside of Kelowna and I remember my family not worrying about it coming to Winfield but then they were talking about how they might have to put homes around Beaver Lake in evcuation alert.
Also, my aunt and uncle were evacuated. Very creepy summer.
i remember the night early on when the wind cought the fire and the whole of downtown was like a warzone covered in ash and falling of small debries blown by the wind. i was working that night and i had to get a ride home because it would have been impossible for me to breath since i have asthma.
Nice job. I liked the fact you included the '3 years later' portion, and showed how well the park has regenerated. Well done. I should upload some of the photos I took....from the planes above the fire at the time.
i remember being in the water at gyro beach and looking at the mountain and seeing that odd orange glow, i i yelled out to look over there and everyone on the beach just froze, one of the most tense moments of my life, followed by the most tesnse months of my life due to the fire
i use to live in okanagan fall's the day i moved there there was the fire...i was like OMG this is the biggest forest fire i have ever seen but i didn't live near the fire...i lived in okanagan fall's so no one got evacuated..if u could take pic's of Ok fall's every year plz..because right now i live in quebec...and i wanna c if OK fall's changed, ty :)
I dont live near Ok falls, and of course you wouldnt be evacuated anywhere near OK falls lol.. thats like an 1 and half hour drive away from the fire. and yea i think it was the biggest fire anyone had ever seen around here.
i was evacuated for this but before i was evecuated i had a prefect view of the fire from my window. i lived right by the lake where we could here the water bombers flying by and actualy watch them refill. as we were being evacuated we could see black smoke from burning houses
my house was on the road they called ground zero! It burned down unfortunately!

i remember seeing that fire actually when it started to creep over the mountains in penticton.
it was just horrid.
i dont think i went to the kelowna area at all after that fire started.

and it hasnt changed except for the fact that the lumber mill there just shut down.
