Why do they have the long feathers on their hats? Its interesting because the only time I've ever seen feathers on the balmoral hats was when a clan chief was present. Very interesting video!
@GOBRAGH2@GOBRAGH2 Apparently you're not far off the mark - bearing in mind that they are the Bodyguard to the ruling Monarch of Scotland, who is above the clan chiefs.
@GOBRAGH2 no claymores or knights in shining armour (although probably a few Sirs here and there) it's really just longbows and arrows I think - although I'm no expert
@EdinburghGuide Do you have any knowledge of any modern military archery divisions anywhere in a modern army like in the UK or USA etc.
Did Royal Company see any military action like the Scots Guard or Black Watch in its history or was its sole purpose to defend the sovereign of Scotland?
Thanks for posting. A great tradition which a lot of people don't know about.
That was the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Cllr George Grubb presenting the silver arrow to the winner and along with some of the councillors from the city march back to Archers' Hall for refreshments
A rare historical event ,well put together ,explaining a very interesting ceremony, shooting for the Silver Arrow in Edinburgh by the Sovereign's bodyguard.... Great Stuff!
