just curious if anyone knows how judd v8's get their sound? is a standard racing, dare i say, "muffler" or is it pure tuning and shape of headers?

@z28snakeeater If you are referring to the difference in sound between a normal road going v8 and this motor, it is because this motor has a shorter shorter stroke and is MUCH higher revving. I can't find an exact figure, but i'd estimate around 13,000 rpm+, based on judd's formula one history. Theres definitetely no sound engineering involved

@TheInconcinnity The biggest difference is that the Judd V8 like most performance engines is a single plane V8 rather than a cross plane/ dual plane V8 like the majority of mass production engines. The main difference is that the X-plane is smoother, but the single -plane crankshaft is much lighter and freer revving, and the firing order is different making coupling of the headers much easier in tuned applications too.

I've raced singleseaters and touringcars myself but always in safe environments, and a mountain road isn't safe. May he rest in peace, but these risks are not worth it. Mountain roads are for road cars, racetracks are for racecars.

I do not agree at all! Safety in every motorsport is an illusion as this year unfortunately showed on a very tragic way. I doesn`t really matter if you race IRL, Moto GP or European Hillclimb Championship, it just ends when your time run up, thats it. There is no safe environment in motorsport, every true motosporty knows this. And although knowing this big risks you never kept these guys off from racing. Cos they live it 24/7.

Doesn`t matter if in world of rallying, open road motorbiking like the TT on the Isle of men or a freestyle motocrossbiker. They all do what they do and wont even stop if something like this happen.

I don't like talking about stuff like this on internet, but i'm 30 now and have raced since 16 on 3 continents, touringcars, singleseaters etc. For instance F1 is very safe these days. Just look at the surroundings in these Bergrennen. Trees, rocks, cliffs. Its much much more dangerous than racing any car on any F1 track in the world. I've had some major shunts over the years, but nothing more than bruises. With static objects around the track and no run-off zone, its dangerous.

Schade dass die Kohlefaser Monocoques nur der Formel 1 und anderen Warmduscher Serien vorbehalten bleiben. Der Georg hatte keine Chance. Die Überrollbügel und Rohrrahmen haben einfach nachgegeben. Hab sein Projekt von Anfang an verfolgt. Grad dann, wenn eine Sache ein bischen zu laufen beginnt, man sich daran gewöhnt und sich erfreut, dann schlägt der Tod gnadenlos zu. Das war 1985 beim Tod von Stefan Bellof genauso.
