Hi I think this is very interesting, and yet I had another lesson that told me to release tension in the throat one should raise and cup the tongue like a upside down U shape. Im confused...which one is correct?
The sounds that you're trying to make come out of that girl are HORRIBLE. She's coughing in the video from how you're trying to "Teach" her to sing. That poor girl is gonna to end up ruining her voice.
The way she teaches and demonstrates the mouth jammed open is TERRIBLE technique, as indeed is this obssession with keeping the tongue depressed. Singing high has nothing to do with tongue position. And, what the hell is the hyboid bone?
hi, an R&b singer ,age 18, and have been singing for 4 years, i used to be a tenor but ever since i hit puberty, i got a really deep voice, although i can still hit notes as high as a soprano with my falsetto, but I feel afraid to sing with tenor without straining my voice, is there anything i can do to get my tenor range back?
You can still sing every tone you have ever sang in your life. It is not gone. Focusing your vocal chords and Breath Support is important. Don’t blow, let the air leak out evenly, like a string of pearls. Go to my website at singading. Read the singing tips on how to sing high and low notes. All men can sing a high C6 and a low C2. It is knowing that you can do it and how to do it.
ok, so im a 14 year old guy who wants to sing clear but becuase my voice is changing it doesnt sound clear at all :( how do i get it to sound crystal clear and very smooth like a micheal buble kind of sound? and another thing :D how do i stop sqweeking when i try and hit high notes becuase its very embaracing sometimes :P
How do I make my voice crystal clear? I'm trying to sing a few rock songs like Avenged Sevenfold. I can't really explain it, but look at this video in my favorites please. It's called "Seize the Day Live in the LBC" or something like that. I want to sing like the vocalist in the band. Please look it up. I say again, it's in my favorites
@MrSunryze No, that is just the beginning. The tongueand jaw produce vowels, the lips consonants. The tongue is an amazing muscle and can create many shapes. Just do not get it in the way of the vocal path. Go to my website for more information. Susan Swenson
Sure, that's interesting. I know the technique because opera singers make vibrate their tongues while singing and the uvula is useful too. Honestly, I'd like to see the inside of their mouth.
wow i never knew about the tongue thing either. thanks for these videos! but i have a quick question: i started doing that ("pushing my tongue down") while i sing but i notice that my throat starts to hurt while i sing - its like im stretching the muscles. how can i fix this? i know im singing wrong when my neck/throat starts hurting (and its not due to straining, it happens even when singing medium-pitched notes) but i dont know how to fix this. help please!
i dont think thats hard..at least for someone who really wants to learn!i wish i could have some of those lessons!coz i luv to sing but i know i need lessons tho..!n that teacher seems good! =) nice vid =)
It does not matter what you eat or drink before you sing. Food goes down the esophagus to your stomach. Air you breathe goes into your lungs via the trachea. When you swallow the epiglottis covers the larynx, like a trap door covering the entrance, so no food or liquid can enter your voice box or lungs. Otherwise, you will choke. Antihistamines, inhalers, hairspray, smoke, cleaning product fumes can dry out the vocal chords and cause harm. Something really cold tightens and shrinks.
Yes, just do not use and inhaler a day or so before you sing. The Federal Food and Drug Administration, FDA, panel said Thursday that inhalers are dangerous. They can really affect your voice. Many of my students have asthma. Singing makes you aware of breath and vocal control and therefore will help and possible cure your asthma symptoms.
Yes, you are right. I tell my students to watch films of professional singers live performances in slow motion to see them doing this. Thanks for your comment.
Yes, it is hard to do, but worth learning. Watch people who are singing live, you will see them doing it. Watch Christina Aquillera in slow motion. Practice in from of a mirror with a flash light. You will be amazed at the thick sound you can sing.

i cant hit high notes or low notes. how can i do it?
FurbyGirl111 1 year ago
@FurbyGirl111
High Notes: think down and out, head into shoulders and jaw forward.
Low notes: visualize up and back, head and neck stretched up. Pull the jaw back, upper teeth over bottom.
For more information go to my website. Susan

This girls spend their time looking at their own throat. That makes me laugh because It's a little weird but I like it. Anyway, It's a song lesson.

Hi Susan,
I tried your techniques and it works....However,
I sounded like yawning when I sing.
Is there a way to make my voice sound normal?
snpmonster 2 years ago
No, Google 'larynx anatomy' and you can see some great illustrations of the vocal process and where and how the tongue works

Hi Susan. The muscle which controls the pulling back of the tongue... is it the adam's apple?

just look at how celine dion sings holy night, and you can see her wonderful technique with the tongue at work.

I love how doing the craziest things at any voice lesson are the most helpful.
I've done this at my lesson when I took a 3 month break due to school. Helps loads.
