1) "I'll take things a douchebag would say for $100 Alex" It's a Ferrari, it should be driven like a race car. Anyone who drives a Ferrari like a Camry should be executed on sight.
2) regardless of what you see from the driver's seat, all cars have mechanical restrictions equivalent to a gated shifter, that is no excuse. If the synchros are actually that slow, I have a bone to pick with a handful of Ferrari engineers.
1) Driven like a race car does not mean ragging on the transmission. Again, it's not a drag car.
2) Wrong. Cable vs. mechanical linkage, synchro-mesh vs. dog gears, etc etc. In this case, it is nothing to do with the mechanical design of the gear selector or type of gear box. How many modern cars do you see with a gate-shifter? None. Is there a benefit? No, quite the opposite. Why do Ferrari and Lamborghini still do it? For tradition.
All cars should have gated shifters.

You would shift cautiously as well if you knew how much it cost to rebuild the gearbox.

It's a Ferrari, not a Mustang that you take to the drag strip.
1) It's a Ferrari, and should be driven with respect.
2) It's a gated shifter - not very easy to power-shift with. I've driven a '73 Dino 246 and an '88 328 GTS. I can attest to this, first hand.
