Blichmann really backs his products. Wait till you have a problem and try to get it resolved. " I certainly recall the conversation. Let me know how much the billwas and we'll see what we can do. Sincerely, John BlichmannBlichmann Engineering, LLC." And guess what he did to rectify the situation-nada. I love the patch flag john, I was in the boy scouts too, when I was twelve. Do not buy anything from this guy.
You don't need to know a welder, there are plenty of weld-less kits available for both the drain and the thermometer. Also you want to move the shield to be under the sight glass as well, or you'll boil the liquid in the glass. It is borosilicate, so the heat isn't an issue, the lack of accurate measurement is the problem. These pots do not do well with the "jet" burners, they are fantastic with the hurricane/banjo/blichmann burners due to the flat bottom.
So far I'm very satisfied with the Blichmann. It's well made and should last a long time. Only drawback to the 15gal size is that you can't use the Brewmometer if you're only doing small batches. Only full 10+gal batches will allow you to use the thermometer. If you want to save money you can consider making your own brew kettle out of a used keg. That'll save you over $200 but you'll need to know a welder.
Thanks for posting this video. I would like to know how satisfied you are with your blichmann... I'm considering buying the 10-gallon version and I'm just curious if you have had any regrets or second thoughts about your purchase. Those bad boys are quite pricey and I'm just trying to convince myself to drop $300 for this one...

Make sure you have sanitary welds done too, don't need lead in your brew.

that was a lot of energy used for a test boil.

AHH, put a lid on it to conserve heat, propane, and bring water up to temp faster. wouldn't recommend lid during beer boil though :)
