Phoenix-Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands (Bob Dylan Cover)

I have to say, i just started listening to Phoenix, and i liked them because it sounded nice, but nothing makes a band nowadays sweeter than its good influence. Upon hearing this cover i was thinking, "Oh cool but i mean its Dylan, every cover sucks because it's not Dylan". I then checked it out and thought, "Damn, not only did they do a cover of Dylan but its amazingly good and has its own sound." Needless to say I am now a fan of Phoenix.

Certainly better than the Byrds shit-versions of Dylan's songs. But, if you like the song, and I expect they had no plans to release it as a single, why not just show it enough respect to do the whole thing? Sounds good, though. Phoenix is a good band.

I grew up with a mother who loved Bob Dylan and I can't say that I ever shared her affection; his voice is very annoying. But, Thomas Mars does the vocals justice. That being said, Bob Dylan is an amazing lyricist. I think he is one of those that you love or hate, though. I will settle in the middle.

I think the reason they probably didn't do the whole of the original song is because Bob Dylan, alone has the charisma to sustain your attention for so long, anyone else doing a song as long as sad-eyed lady would lose their audience halfway. So i think Phoenix was wise not to do the whole thing b/c no one does Dylan like Dylan.

@Enchant0524 Agreed. Phoenix showed some real guts to even cover this song (which I think they did a really nice job), but they were smart to not try to do the whole thing, as they would've come off as comparing themselves to Dylan.

Ah. I love Pheonix. I love Bob Dylan even more. I just wish they'd done the whole song. Songs were written with intent. I don't see why cover artists think it's their place to change them. Nonetheless! This is very good.

the original version is longer then 10 minutes i remember, it would be a lot better if dylan just cut 2 verses instead of like 17 repeats of the same melody.

@Heeey333 no, no it wouldn't have. it would have been better if he kept going for another 10 minutes. Joan probably wouldn't have tackled it if it was that long. Although, her voice does soar when she sings it.
