and it sounds like you're not that familiar with bolan's music. devendra banhart's (what a pretentious name) whole schtick is mainly based on bolan's earlier folk material. this is his first song that sounds more like bolan's rockier stuff. so i guess he progressing in a weird way.

banhart is to bolan what lenny kravitz is to jimi hendrix. that's not what i would call "inspired" or "influenced". it's a simple as that

And to me, Devendra Banhart sounds like a mixture of many folk artists from the early sixties, like Odetta and LeFarge."Weird America". Look it up. And Devendra Banhart's name is his actual name. and here's a little music lesson for you smart guy: bowie was making (in addition to truly revolutionary sounding music) a comment about pop music and being pop star. it was never just imitation for intimation's sake. bowie was influenced by reed (the velvet underground). it was only after they met and collaborated that reed adopted the glam thing and that was mainly for look. reed's music was still reed's music.
