They completely twisted what Seagal said. He did NOT say he was "God", he said ALL sentient beings have "Buddha nature" which is similar to "Godlike nature" or "Christ consciousness". He included himself in that, but he did not say that this nature is unique to himself alone.
The part that bothers me the most is when he said people look at him and just "know" - whatever that means.

He merely said the same thing the character of Jesus says in 'the Bible', "Ye are all gods." It is a basic principle of many religions since the first. The ultimate meaning of that which many miss is that all deities originate within the mind of the believer, and are therefore only as real as they are imagined to be. That is why being a decent person is easy. Gods are merely the highest representation of ourselves. It's so very sad how easily words are twisted, and then swallowed by the masses.

@johnvasgird there isn't one idea of a christian god, even the bible ist uncertain about his nature, while in the stories of the old tesament he seems to be revengeful and hate-driven, he's more mercyful and loving in the new testament. But in either case the concept is build up on an absolute and unquestionable authority and hence christianity as a monotheistic religion (the same is true for judaism and islam) is sociologically closely linked with totalitarism.

Before I take part in a totalitarian system with an unquestionable supreme leader on top (which monotheism in fact is) I rather prefer a believe system in which everyone can be his own god and therefore his own unquestionable supreme leader and find spirituality in that. Both are imagined. But the former concept at least corresponds with my idea of men as free and self responsible creatures.
