I'm a huge Satriani fan, but Alexi completely destroys him in terms of technical prowess. But Satch plays a slower, more mellow style because that's what he likes to play. Either way, it's ridiculous to compare the two, they are obviously playing very different styles.

I play guitar for 3 years now, but I can't do their solo's yet. I'm trying, and I can do all rhythm parts, but some solo's are still too hard. Does anyone know good exercises to practise speed? cause that's the only thing i'm still lacking...

@Rabje1234 haha man, that's exactly my problem. I manage to play a few solos but his "speed runs" are too fast for me. All I do is getting pissed about it :D and the old "start slowly get faster"

@Rabje1234 just take a pentatonic scale on one string, then play secuensis(if i write that word right, cause english is not my native languege(another wrong word)) with tremolo picking. start slow and then build up speed

@Rabje1234 I've been playing guitar for uhm 3-4 years myself but take things slowly,when your practising try to alternate pick and count to for and when youwant to speed it up try to get two notes per beat like count to one and then play two notes, build it up regularely. I can play fast but not tight and my solos sounds shitty :P well before soloing it's good to have the rythm there.

@Rabje1234 first of all play slowly as everyone told you to. than start doing exercises: make up ways to go up and down a scale, up and down arpeggios and create small runs. try to play it flawless and if you can do it insist. than speed it up a little bit till u can play it flawless once again and so on. if theres something you're being great at and something u're being the worst at its pointless to insist on convincing yourself you're good and keep playing what you already can easyly

@tasfa10 insist on what you cant play (but dont jump to extremely technical stuff). plus i think u should start playing something else than bodom. this is not for everyone to throw rocks on me, but bodom isnt that hard to play. if you start playing jason becker, malmsteen, gilbert and even other melo/progressive death bands stuff such as obscura and necrophagist one day when you go back to bodom you'll laugh at yourself for having seen this as extremely hard stuff. its frustranting but worth it

its always just a million notes with no point or destination

when i listen to one of his solos i always know what to expect there is never a surprise like him actually playing good for once

and van halen always has speed and explicit melodies there is always some point or feeling, and anticipation in his soloing

i dont even think alexi could do any of those things just from what ive heard from him so far
