According to them, in a vacuum, Tyra Banks or Beyonce would prolly be more attractive to more people than Alek Wek AND many pale platimum blond or redhead models like Lily Cole. They say extremes are often embraced as part of specific cultures, but not in a 'vacuum'.

There are the beautiful and the ugly in ALL races. However in my opinion there is very little beauty with a bald woman! Baldness is a curse, and hair is a woman's glory. That's why so many black women wear hair weaves, and many white women wear hair extensions, especially in the entertainment industry. Long beautiful hair gets noticed, and can even stop traffic!

Can I ask why the FUCK it bothers people that she is deemed Beautiful? I don't think most of the women in Hollywood, or anywhere else in the media are beautiful. Most of the images we see of "beautiful" ppl are photoshopped, anorexic girls with makeup artists and personal trainers working desperately to make them look decent. Do we excuse them? So what if she isnt typical to u, or if you cant accept a different look as equal. She is beautiful in a strong way, no makeup, no photoshop, just beauty

@lanie231 I'm African America, but I do agree. Many of the women in America don't even try to look good & have no respect for themselves. Many are attractive & beautiful when they try though! Still, Africans are where we come from, and any dummy who denies the beauty of African women is denying their beauty, or elevating the European standards that have brainwashed them so severely. Alek Wek is unique, her beauty is strong & makes some Europeanized ppl uncomfortable to accept.

I simply do not see the "beauty" everyone talks about in regards to Alek Wek. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so what I find beautiful is not necessarily the next man's ideal. I just can not understand how SO MANY people find this woman so gorgeous. Just can't see it.

@maureen1002 i totally agree and it has nothing to do with the color of her skin because in my opinion, "black is beautiful" if she was lighter i still just don't see her as being beautiful and i'm not being mean that's just my opinion. i am proud that she is a successful model i hope she climbs to the top of the ladder but i just can't adjust my eyes to her being beautiful or gorgeous
