Well, one thing is clear. I wouldn't fight the war on Terror, I don't believe that fighting is the way to solve that. More fighting sparks more deaths on a war that is all about stopping terrorism. I wouldn't fight for that army. But if we went to Burma and liberated it, not for US territory but to help them out, I'd join in a heart beat. If that does happen, I'll join in a heart beat.
The problem is not so much incompetence or lack of intellectual or moral capital (they have good leaders like Su Kyi), but no physical power, or enough intl support, to break the military's grip.) The problems they face have sprung from the former colonial power's abrupt departure. Sometimes they leave but give financial support, but the still create a massive power vacuum. Corruption and violence runs rampant in the power grab.
WHAT?!?!?So what are saying? Are Burmese to stupid run themselves??It should be western colony again? Hey, it's not really 99%. but you're right. US is ruling the world with it's neo-colonism. Through what they call two-way-profits globalization, though it's mostly only one-way.

with all due respect, its made explicit in the report that these refugees are fleeing a corrupt 'military dictatorship' and that they want democracy, which was taken away from them after this regime took over after a coup decades ago ---this isnt meant to be breaking news. so the 'thickheaded' reporter youre referring to should be commended for risking his life to give you an update.. so, chill out and get informed

Burma is allied to China, and China hates imperialism, so you have to be careful. Like in korean war american got defeated by Chinese by simply invading further into the Chinese border.
You're right. IRRESPONSIBLE American Businessmen are investing or have invested in modern China. Thanks to their greedy, money grubbing ways, the civilians of China, Tibet, and Burma are suffering.
Those irresponsible business people remind me of John Walker, a white, Californian man who joined the Osama Bin Ladin's group at the beginning of the War on Terror.
An an business person, I hope to do all that I can to change these horrible tactics. Making money shouldn't lead to murder!

ok guys dont go blaming america we got our own shit to deal with ok not helping broken countries we dont have time for that we need oil and money we help our country we dont care about burma this is really not our problem why dont the burmans just fight back and stop doing useless protest and it may make bloodshed but its better than sitting there with your thumb up your ass
Oh how nice it is to say that. What a fucking dumbass. "with a thumb up your ass" do you actually think that these people LOVE getting their craniums split APART? Do you think it is enjoyable to be sawed in half by men? Useless protest... it is people like you that put shame to America. OF COURSE America doesn't care. As long as they are killing muslims and getting their "oil" life cant be better right?
I ALSO SAW RANBO PS THE COMMY DICKTATOR LEADER ALSO HAS TO WORRY ABOUT ME ME LT DAN I WILL AND I MEAN WILL USE A BERIT 50 CALL ON HIS ASSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
What is it with us people that we can be so blind and deaf, I am absolutely shocked!! I can more or less concieve that China is part and parcel, supporting Burmese generals but Britain, wow!
mightyali - how ill informed you are. Burma has oil, lots. Natural gas too. However its dictators are not posing a nusainse to the global trade oil, so in that sense you are right. however, if they tried to assasinate GHW Bush, then yes their country would have been attacked by current GW jackass Bush.
The UN doesn't take military action anymore- the UK is one of the 5 permanent members of the UN security council, which gives them veto power to any resolution. The video mentions that the UK is also one of the greatest investors in Burma's military regime. If they don't want anything to happen, then nothing will.
The Burmese military are a bunch of pussies hurting defenseless malnutrition villagers. The war against your own people is ruthless. One day they will kill some many Burmese people there won't be anymore fools to serve these punks.
Burma is too much like Vietnam for anyone to get involved at this point. Just like in Vietnam, the Burmese government wants one Burma, a united one... This is going to keep going on and on for a looong time.
true communism as described by marx and engels in their manifesto has never been practiced because of man's greed. the communism of vietnam, china, and russia is not true communism.
this kind of thing makes me ashamed to be American. we're not wanted in the middle east. we bomb Afganistan and Iraq while the people of Burma are protesting and being killed wanting democracy. george bush should be tried for crimes against humanity for his participation in the war.
9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq you fucking idiot and Afganistan/Osama became much less important that Iraq. We killed Saddam and Osama is still out there. We've only created more future problems and caused civil war in Iraq. It isn't our business how countries in the middle east govern themselves. our economy is failing because of our involvement and the amount of money we've spent to build a nation(something Bush said he was not interested in)
now that a majority of americans want us out of Iraq Bush isn't listening and some Republicans are saying we're going to be there for years to come. This country needs to worry about problems at home and less about trying to influence the world. The world is a big place and most the people in it aren't americans. The Burmese people want help, but Burma's ties with China and Britan are keeping one reason we aren't helping.
You are a fucking left wing nut fuck! Since 9-11, how many attacks on US Soil asshole? ZERO! Osama Bin Laden is a little fuckin cave bat right now. Nowhere to be found. His son is looking for him. Iraq is doing much better. We killed not only Hussain, but Al-Zarqawi & Hussains blood thirsty sons as well.
you should remember that osama was a cave bat before 9/11. i wonder how many Osamas we have created with our involvement in Iraq. the war cost 500 billion so far. what did Iraq have to do with 9/11? nothing. were the people of Iraq begging us to help them? no. the burmese are and we've done nothing. how is iraq doing much better? when we leave it will fall apart and we'll have wasted money and lives there for people who didn't ask for our help.
mordred612:The bottom line is why does U.S. have to be the world police force period? Why is it the job of all american citizens to pay for everyone elses crises?
if you read my post below you'll find that i said just that. it isn't our responsibility, but if we suggest we are on the side of good and are interested in helping those that need help we should do so equally. our credibility is diminished when we invade a country that didn't ask for our help such as iraq and stand by while burmese people are asking for our help and dying.
I made a crystal Taj Mahal for her inside 1000 acres of flowers, but understood that cannot match her beauty. I started living inside it. I painted a big picture of Ashwarya Rai in walls. It was heavy snowfall outside. I showered roses on her picture. Her smiling makes me speechless. Sunlight reflected her face and I found the ANSWER. She is soul, life, and way to external peace. She is a true GODESS.
THE FREAKING UNITED NATIONS ARE DOING NOTHING TO HELP BURMA BUT LETIT CONTINUE...and america is too busy in iran looking for nuclear bombs that arent even there!
They should support the opposing forces with weapons and equipment I think, also maybe assasinating the leaders and put agents in burma.... and world needs to put presure on china and russia
There is a way you can take the militia pigs out. Feed them to make them sick, quench their thirst to make them dry. Weaken them so they are in hospital . (poison). Don't bother fighting they have force.
We the beautiful people of this World will have freedom there is no place for forced rule.
The point is: what happened in Burma is wrong. A movement whose marketing raises 4 billion dollars in 2001-2004 apparently doing "sports" (IOC) and promoting "Olympic spirit should not be compatible with a country where "freedom" and "human rights" do not exist.
"There's a reason why people complain, America claims to be and acts like the world police and yet they won't do real policing when really big trouble occurs. Imagine your police department telling everyone how great it is and goes to response to a robbery in a high income neigbourhood but when a huge hostage situation occurs in a low income area, they are no where to be seen."
lol america and britain doesnt give a fuck about genocide as long as they will not gain anything.
what they care is that fucking resources you have just like @tonyf69 said. UN is only for white people who are trap in a shithole country and they will come to there rescue.
Fight the Big Evil... The only one responsible for Afghanistan and Iraqi situation... They are the true responsible for all those deaths in Burma streets... Fight 'em....
Geez, what a puppet you are - whether you know it or not!
Fight the killers, first! Don't mix values, don't let ideologies blind your eyes...
arielkjk, please please do some research, just a little such as a simple Google search for 'Burma , oil' will open your eyes to how the system works. Rejecting one evil in favor of another is the common mistake we make and we die in the millions or live in slavery as a result.
areilkjk, I beleive that like most people you sincerely wish for peace, but there are forces that will exploit your fears and concerns. They implant beleifs in your mind such as 'Democracy is good, every other political system is evil'. But as we all know, Western style 'Democracy' comes down the barrel of a gun. From my house I can see the Burma border, I hope I never see the USAF bringing 'Democracy' to the towns and villages there.
people, they are benefiting they are earning more pounds and $ ,and burma currently is importing goods to britain at much lower price.iraq had different resource [oil] .
America and Britain should help these people because it is an obvious abuse of human rights. It is not all about the money, it is called being good people. I am sick of the American and British governments, who are supposed to be the leaders of the world, being so greedy and continuing to do business with countries like Burma and China, who have little or no regard for human rights, for an economic profit.
Why isn't president Bush invading Burma to free the people of Burma from the military dictatorship, like the way he did with Iraq? America was so determined to free the people of Iraq, but Burma has the same problem yet no one is doing anything to stop it. Crazy world we live in.
Thank you for sharing...this one tore at my soul!! My prayers are with you, I wish I could offer more! Love you all as you struggle in your fight! Peace!
Very informative behind those bright pagodas & smiling faces, are people who live under this repressive government(now more because of the recent protests) and a paranoid dictator trying to model the country after North Korea, including nuclear plants. If the US needs to find weapons of mass destruction to take action, it's there. Get Britain and France to pull out before it's too late.
This is really powerful footage, and I cannot believe that all the rest of the world can do is to set sanctions! The super powers are too busy destroying poor nations for greed, while the U.N, as usual just lets the world fall apart.... There has GOT to be a way to fight back!!!!!!
Don't you just love it when MURDER is re classified as "ethnic cleansing"? Those MURDERERS WILL SEE A RETALIATION they have never seen in their miserable lives!
Someone tell me why I'm being booed, lol... I asked a question because I wanted to know more about other points of view. I want to know more about the life experiences of people in other parts of the world. I'm not saying that all Burmese think the same, but there's a good chance that his opinions have something to do with his experiences in Burma. So I'm humbly ask again... dose anyone have any ideas on why my Burmese friend has such a problem with communists and Muslims.
Sadly they just care about money and power like animals and doesn't give a crap about humanity. Why are we still supporting these monsters? stop buying their products and resources!
Am I being booed for not hating Muslims, or for not being Jewish? I can't do anything about not being Jewish, and I don't see why I should hate someone because of their religion.
Hahaha, I'm not Jewish, and I don't hate Muslims. You're a wacko! I will admit that I don't like you much though; crazy people always give me the creeps.
This is really interesting because my partner at work is from Burma. He was a democrat and escaped to Thailand. Whenever I ask him about Burma he gets upset. It amazes me how much he knows about the world, but how little I know about him. I do know that he hates communists and Muslims; does anyone have an idea why? He doesn't talk about it.
hardthof4u, you are using the people of Burmas' suffering to spread your ignorant view on religion. What a waste of life you are. Get a life you commie scum.
You're partially right, AmericanDiaz, my mistake. At least it's not the religion which provokes a war. But having an opinion is one thing, offend people for their own opinion is another. Keep a civil tongue, peewee.

I hope that we are asking who are the companies that invest in this country and support such dictatiors? Then stop buying their products, Most are from China and south east asia.
That statement is highly inaccurate. The Chinese government, not business, is investing in Myanmar; and the businesses that are investing are from Western countries like the United States and Europe. They're buying into oil and such, not cheap manufactured goods like you're thinking.
Ha, the fuck do you know in post WWII Japan!? MI-6? Did you eat bad Sushi or what? Aung San Suu Kyi is NOT James Bond, you idiot! And ditto on capturing ALL the freaks who come on Prostitution tours in South East Asia,....Yes, Your people especially! AS per "colonialist", you left out Imperial Japan...Oh, NOT in your History book?
The United States indiscriminately bombs us, and murders several hundred thousand people. The United States drops an atomic bomb twice, and murders several hundred thousand people. Are you American's teacher?Do not you know? You are an impolite American.
Never seen such desperate or disparate set of comments. Can we achieve anything like this?
Why dont we start with just reversing the "WE GOT YOUR PICTURES..WILL GET YOU" Target all the Burmese army goons masquerading as their envoys -- UN or otherwise. Use your cameras and Bullhorns. Those goons cannot hide forever under dipolomatic cover or chinese protection.
I know it just pays better to cover our Britneys and Parises. But jornalists could lead and join people like Jim
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. You really risked your neck bring the truth to the world. Burmese people really do need international attention and help to end this regime. We, as ordinary people, can start by economic sanction on those company that support the burmese goverment or any government that supresses human rights. I'll never pump gas from chevron again. Great job and efforts in putting the video, I hope I see more of your work in the future. Thank you once again.
It is unfair to attack the USA for it's lack of action in Burma. I am neither American, or a fan of the Bush administration, but I see little more the US can do that what it has already done. Unfortunately, an invasion of Burma is not practical and would lead to a massive loss of innocent life .... and then what next, Zimbabwe? North Korea? China? The blame should rest on those who perpetrate these crimes. The idea of a few strategic assassinations would be interesting though....
Something would be done about this, and all cou tries with similar problems, if humanity would unite together, and see to overthrow the corporate demons who have taken over. Awareness is the first step to action.
Frustrating! Burma and Darfur have similar problems: oil, natural gas, and natural resources motivate outside business, government, and military to invest in the militarism that makes so many local people suffer...
I feel bad for the innocent. I wish all of those wrong-doers would just die. I salute to the reporter for risking his own life for a rightous cause and being so brave.

The UN doesn't take military action anymore- the UK is one of the 5 permanent members of the UN security council, which gives them veto power to any resolution. 9/11 had nothing to do with Iraq you fucking idiot and Afganistan/Osama became much less important that Iraq. We killed Saddam and Osama is still out there. We've only created more future problems and caused civil war in Iraq. It isn't our business how countries in the middle east govern themselves. our economy is failing because of our involvement and the amount of money we've spent to build a nation(something Bush said he was not interested in)
mordred612 4 years ago 3
now that a majority of americans want us out of Iraq Bush isn't listening and some Republicans are saying we're going to be there for years to come. This country needs to worry about problems at home and less about trying to influence the world. The world is a big place and most the people in it aren't americans. The Burmese people want help, but Burma's ties with China and Britan are keeping one reason we aren't helping.
mordred612 4 years ago
You are a fucking left wing nut fuck! Since 9-11, how many attacks on US Soil asshole? ZERO! Osama Bin Laden is a little fuckin cave bat right now. Nowhere to be found. His son is looking for him. Iraq is doing much better. We killed not only Hussain, but Al-Zarqawi & Hussains blood thirsty sons as well.
stivo1975 4 years ago
you should remember that osama was a cave bat before 9/11. i wonder how many Osamas we have created with our involvement in Iraq. the war cost 500 billion so far. what did Iraq have to do with 9/11? nothing. were the people of Iraq begging us to help them? no. the burmese are and we've done nothing. how is iraq doing much better? when we leave it will fall apart and we'll have wasted money and lives there for people who didn't ask for our help.

if you read my post below you'll find that i said just that. it isn't our responsibility, but if we suggest we are on the side of good and are interested in helping those that need help we should do so equally. our credibility is diminished when we invade a country that didn't ask for our help such as iraq and stand by while burmese people are asking for our help and dying.

The point is: what happened in Burma is wrong. A movement whose marketing raises 4 billion dollars in 2001-2004 apparently doing "sports" (IOC) and promoting "Olympic spirit should not be compatible with a country where "freedom" and "human rights" do not exist.

Why do you think Britan and America have suddenly shown an interest in 'Human rights' in Burma? Answer - OIL!
It's the same routine.
a) Accusations of human rights abuse
b) Demonize the Government
c) Stir up trouble within the country to collapse the Government
d) Instal a puppet government
e) Steal the countries natural resources
f) If all that fails... 'bomb them back to the Stone Age'

arielkjk 4 years ago
arielkjk, please please do some research, just a little such as a simple Google search for 'Burma , oil' will open your eyes to how the system works. Rejecting one evil in favor of another is the common mistake we make and we die in the millions or live in slavery as a result.
tonyf69 4 years ago
I'm not rejecting (nor suggesting to) one evil in favor of another.
I fight one at a time.
In China there is simply no freedom, apart from "freedom to crush other human beings".

There are many interests at stake with olympics, and succeeding in boycott WILL NOT be unobserved, trust me.
Rest - as I already stated - will follow.
