my grandma used to make this every christmas but she used almond extract, rolled the two colors together lightly and then twisted it so that it was a uniform candy cane instead of two separate ropes twisted together. Then after baking she immediately dipped them in sugar. BEST COOKIE EVER.

When you twist the white and red together you should (after you twist them) roll them on the counter to blend them in so it doesnt look twisted it looks like one strand, But these are awesome and delicious

Yes, you can add min extract...

You can sub all the vanilla for mint or

you can use 1 teaspoon each mint and vanilla.

Confectioners sugar is used to make icing/frosting.

It is also called powdered sugar.

when I make mine I crunch up some candy canes and when I take them out of the oven, while the cookies are still warm i sprinkle them crushed candy over them :-) thanks for sharing!

Have you ever watched those cooking segments on the morning shows? Like the "Today Show". They do things so fast, people are talking over each other and the segments are confusing and stressful.
