to keep this version from doing the forcable update do the following

Close MSN Messenger

Right click on the MSN Mesenger icon, go to Properties

Go to compatibility

Then deselect "Run this program in compatibility mode for..", select Windows 2000, then hit apply.

Run MSN Messenger and it should sign-in fine.

you may have to install msnplus again tho

i have tried to install msnplus, and it wont work :( sorry :(, i think its cos msnplus isn't supported on windows 2000 mode , not sure tho

hey got a problem.. i intalled win msn 9.0 and worked fined ... then i instaleed the msn plus... but.. ot wouldnt let me sign in...it will always tell me an error any.. so i unistalled msn9.0 and put 8.0 but as i installed it and log in to my account my list of contacts r gone..WTF i go to a diffrent computer and i logg in and everthing is fine? wth is rong .. y will my contacts wont appear?

If you are still interested in using 8.5, you can just set msnmsgr.exe to start in Windows 2000 compatibility mode, that will allow you to log in..

MSN plus isn't compatible with the latest version of messenger :S. And You can't get it back because it will say it's compulsory to upgrade. That's what I got.
