I'm a 70 yy very active lady who has just relearned(after about 35-40years) to use a hoop. I have a cheap wave hoop from toys r us which is filled with water which adds a little weight to it. I would be interested in graduating to some a little more professional. What do u recommend?
@HoopCharmer thanks for your response - I live in NYC (actually Queens). We are now three generations of hoopers (grandson is 7 and is sooo good!). What exactly is a dance hoop?
@baysidemama Its made out of a heavier tubing, but not too heavy. Just right! Trust me, you'll love the difference! :-) You could find them online... or I also make them. :-)
@baysidemama You can make them out of 3/4 inch flex pvc that you can buy at a previous cut lengh (which is perfect for a hoop) at Home Depot. A little bit of electrical tape for friction, and you're on your way :)
But this can cause a lot of bruising, so be careful!
hey, i know you make your own hoops, but what size do you use? I'm using a 160psi and 42" and it's so difficult to get it moving. I'm kinda petit, so I know I should have a smaller hoop, but I don't know what size :(
@baka15kun How tall are you? I would maybe try going down to either like a 38 inch 160 psi or a 39 inch 100 psi. I make hoops! Let me know if you're interested in me making you one! :-)
Hooping in December?!?!?!? I need to move there! Hooping in December for me is above the knee snow!!!! hahaha. We get about 3 months of out door hooping. Other wise, in the house :( Or a studio.
Ahhh yes, beautiful San Diego December sunshine. Would you believe I still felt quite chilly that day? Its all about perspective. I love the sunshine. :-)
Thanks for the positive feedback. Hooping has been such a positive influence in my life. It has helped bring on that confidence we speak of, and not to mention how much fun it has been to take on this hoop path! Congratulations on beginning your hoop adventures! :-)
This is really ~cool~ your technique shows you have the quiet confidence you speak of. As a child I loved to hula hoop for hours, now, at 43 I bought my first hula hoop, but it's a sports hoop, kinda rough on the abdomen and heavy, so I immediately bought another more sleek design and can't wait to try doing all the tricks I'm inspired by on here!~
Part of it is a belief in yourself. Its a quiet confidence. Grace seems to come from a place of humble beauty. I would also say, whatever your doing with your hoop, take your time. Slow down your movements, and focus on maintaining form, rather than moving at a super high speed. Take your time thinking about how your dance will be interpreted. :-) I hope that helps..
love the behind the neck spin/stall in the beginning! beautiful! really cool anti-spin work! i've been practicing that too...and your double hooping has gotten great! and the weather looks sooo darn pretty!

@baysidemama I would recommend a regular dance hoop. You'll notice it feels completely different. Where do you live?

@HoopCharmer I looked online under "dance hoops" could not find. I'd be very happy to order through you. What is the cost including s&h? Thanks

why does it seem like your using two hoops when your only using one? like around 0:45
vg2290 1 year ago
@vg2290 It would appear that you are seeing the trail left behind by the hoop, and viewing it as 2 hoops.

@HoopCharmer Hey, you're awesome! especially for replying to me.
I'm 5'5 and i weigh 117. I think I'm about 32-33" under my bust and that's why I can't get that damn hoop on my chest!
I was going to purchase a 38" 160psi because that seems to be the norm, but I just wanted to make sure.
I didn't know you make them?! awesome! I live out on Long Island though. Is that an issue for shipping? Send some info my way about your hoops, lady.
