  • Full credit to both fireman as they would have to work very hard. Great shot. Thanks for sharing

  • Stupid turbostar didnt have a horn/whistle battle with the oncoming loco. If I was driving the turbostar you bet your arse I would've done!

  • Absolutely superb footage, everyone knows that steam sounds best on the Lickey. Now bring on the Double Lickey Banker in March...

  • @steamdriver12 Many thanks. Wasn't aware about the double banker till you said - with thanks. Not sure if i'm going to be able to make it just yet, never the less, 3 steam locos on one train is amazing.

  • perfect! I have not seen a more perfect track side since the days of C W Whitbeck out trying to catch firemen wasting fuel during the war. She was running as clean as it gets. L -o-

  • They still got it, the legendary steam locos still impressive! My baby leading with the awesome pannier at the rear, what more could a super-veg ask for! faved.

  • @RailRKO57 Super-Veg lol :) Thanks

  • Lovely!

  • Absolutely stunning...

  • 9600 sounds like she's barely keeping up!

  • lovely long steam approach

  • Yes any steam tour banked up here is a wonderful sight. Thanks for filming and posting.

  • The rear pannier was going hell for leather. Beautiful sight.

  • Brilliant, thumbs up!

  • is the pannier tank in active use as a banker

  • @matanuialive2010 No this was a one off, it is preserved with a mainline certificate, and was used on this occasion only for this charter train. Usual day to day banking duties are performed by a fleet of about 6 dedicated Class 66 diesels with low running gears for the job.

  • @matanuialive2010 yup by the looks of it. unless the muppet driving it just wants to piss about with british rail (in witch case it will need a brake van lol

  • Superb film. Thank you from Somerset.

  • A joy to behold, the tank reminds me of a kid trying to keep up with mum in a hurry and as for that earlier comment re sub standard brakes and couplings....what planet does that moron come from. As if the rail regulator is going to allow sub standard equipment out there.

  • great video

  • Great vid! Thumbs up mate!

  • Great sound quality.

  • pure beastage mate top marks!

  • Excellent vid....thank's Steve..

  • @stestepney Thanks :)

  • Wow! That Pannier is giving it's all! Fantastic!

  • @philquine Cheers

  • I know that the question was very likely rhetorical, but the presence of the banker is more for the carriages than for lizzy, they're old carriages, with (by modern standards) substandard couplers (and brakes), and adding the banker allows some of the strain on the couplers to be taken up. That's why lizzy isn't even breaking a sweat while 9600 is struggling to keep up.

  • @NikkiAist I have never read such ignorant twaddle! 9600 is probably giving that thing on the front an easy ride!

  • you just gotta love 9600 !

  • That pannier is a bloody little volcano...

    Wonderful stuff.

  • That pannier is a bloody little volcano!

  • wind noise otherwise superb.

  • Excellent and highly impressive video. I bet the passengers on the cross country train were surprised when they passed a train with 2 steamers working really hard! Great to see the pannier working so hard too; reminds me of the period when GW Panniers banked the Folkestone Harbour Branch.

  • Just found this, an excellent shot at what is without a doubt the one and only spot to be tucked in that corner. Bob

  • @robmasterman Thanks Bob. Yes was worth the wait in that corner. Don't think I'll be doing that again in a hurry! Need a mic for that camcorder though.

    Cheers

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS If you've got the funds, a Rode stereo mike is the best on the market, check out their site...Bob

  • @robmasterman Thanks Bob. I've spent most of the time since your reply looking for one suitable, but ive also been told Directional Mic's are better? I'm going into Birmingham Tomorrow Princess Lizzy (again) so dropping by at one of the music shops who stock Rode.

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS The best Mic I've had was a Sennheizer but it does have wiring issues that causes problems for the user, I know several people who use a Rode mic and they say it's superb...I'll leave it with you and good luck with the search...Bob

  • Truely awesome I have never been to the Lickey great video one of the BEST..you need a fuzzy microphone to cancel out the wind noise..I need one too. Great job

  • what camera do u use?

  • Brilliaaaaaaaaant! You've really chosen the right spot there! 'liked'

  • Truly awesome sight to see mate! 10**********

  • @Lightwolf333 Many thanks :)

  • Awesome stuff mate, great day too!!....soggey biscuits an all!! 5*. Cheers.

  • Excellent piece of cameramanship. Thanks for sharing.

  • @gibbon92 Thanks :)

  • Loved this. I can't quite decide if you were unlucky or very lucky with that ubit passing t'other way. You were unlucky it was there at all, but very fortunate it ^%#$^%ed off just in time.

  • Surprised they even let the little tank on the mainline?

Anyways, great footage - Ahhh, the power of steam!! :D

  • @HitchinTrains Thanks! The little tank got its Mainline Cert late last year I beleive.

  • @HitchinTrains

search sls special on youtube, its quite interesting seeing two little panniers on the main!

  • Very professional job....clear picture, no movement of the camera, which is something you can't say of some of the video's posted on youtube !

I can't get over this railtour; it was incredible and makes you feel proud of being an enthusiast, whatever the wife might say !!

  • just awesome

great job of making the video

  • @togreektown Thanks :)

  • Aka MG06ZT...it's a steam Hover....deli voyager!! Great day & a very long one. Great shots' mate. Pity about that bloke in that blue trackie top!! Great video. Cheers.

  • @ay76 The guy in blue trackie top needs to seek help. Was a great day, will send some shots over of my stills when ive sorted the hard drive out for the PC, as its completely full now. Cheers

  • Sweet!! The best traction i got this weekend was a HST pulling out of Skegness Station :P Hope for better this weekend with 6233 (: Well done :D

  • @EastMidlandsSteam Thanks :) Aghhh, I knew there was something else which I needed to photograph that weekend, on the sunday, HST to Skegness, oh well :\ How was the weather in Skegness? Cheers

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS Aye wernt too bad thanks. Got caught in a lightning storm saturday that wasnt forecast :O hailstones the size of marbles!! trust me it hurt :P

  • There have been some great videos of this climb and this is up with the best - your long shots really caught the fearsome nature of the gradient! Thanks for sharing.

Another one for my "favourites!" - Mike

  • @NN2Blue Thanks for your comments, Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Wow, that's quite an incline...never seen anything like that before

  • Mega good vid m8 like steam power hammering up incline m8 5*** Fav

  • @TheCraigc20 Thanks :) Hope you had a good day, happy birthday once again mate. Cheers

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS yeah had good 18 bithday when was see deltic m8 wich was hell fire

  • TU :-) Wow!!! Sure looks like a steep grade but the way those engines were powering upwards and onwards made me double check. The majestic power of the Princess with the little Pannier puffing its heart out at the back. You just gotta love it!!!

  • @HughFromAlice Thanks. the grade is 1 in 37, about 2.65% at 2 miles. This video shows approx 1.4 mile of the climb. cheers

  • Awesome vid 5*, love the lil pannier tank, faved lil steam loco

  • @EssexGayBoi thanks

  • Superb! What else can I say?

  • @churchward82c

    Thanks

  • Great Video, 5 Stars! I saw at Pickes Pool Lane.

  • @60103Henry Thanks. Never heard of Pickes Pool Lane. cheers

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS It a lane that goes up the Lickey Incline!

  • Ref. additional mic. I've been videoing railways since my shot of Mallard on a special from York in 1986 ! I make sure my camera has a mic.socket/input as I often prefer high shots where it can be windy. eg Margam Mores for steam in S/Wales,Stormy Bank and Sugar Loaf in Mid Wales. E mail me direct if I can help.

Mike W. Retired but keen video cameraman.

  • wow! That second shot is fantastic! Excellent! 5* and fav'd

  • @itfcsam Cheers mate

  • Brilliant vid pal.

Never seen a steamer up the lickey.

Awesome sight of it in the distance

  • @560928 Thanks :)

  • GREAT VID 5* when i heard this was happening on saturday i thought no chance it would be history but now i've seen it wow

  • @commanderclass50 Thanks :) Anything involving Steam and Lickey is a sight to behold!

    Cheers

  • This footage proves why British railway preservation is the best!!!! Truely amazing!!!

  • Great stuff, just like being there! 5* +fav.

  • @MG06ZT thanks :) Glad you had a great day with Hoovers, Deltics and the Steels! cheers

  • @KBRAILVIDEOS LOL!!!

  • 9600 stole the show here even though lizz could have done it solo

  • @JontyTrain Thats exactly what I thought when I saw it coming in the distance. Cheers

  • Brilliant long shot, a day we won't forget in a hurry.

  • @acw71000 Thanks :) Indeed, its the first time I've seen steam on the Lickey, espically with the banker made it more special. Cheers

  • I wish I was there, excellent. Only slight criticism; invest in a better mic. with a wind cover for those once in a lifetime shots. It's worth it. Mike Wilcock. Vale of Glamorgan

  • @TheMichaelWilcock A Mic is something i've been looking at, just need to do a bit of research and find which is the best one. Cheers

  • Simply Magical. Absolutely stunning scenes, the sound is epic, that must have been ''a once in a lifetime'' sort of moment for you! Amazing :-)

  • @hstman14 Thanks! Yes certinly was, I've visited the Lickey once before, seen a 66 being banked but this is certinly something else. Cheers

  • Superb - awesome spectacle - both engines in sensational form and footplate crews putting on a splendid display - just adore the tank engine thrashing away on the back - Princess Elizabeth is sensational, with today's technology would be interesting to know how much tractive effort she was achieving on that climb - must be huge

  • @NapierNimbus Thanks :) Not a moment i'll forget in a hurry. Finding out how much tractive effort the set had would be most interesting indeed. Cheers

  • Great to watch, almost got the impression 6201 is cruising up the incline with 9600 giving it full to keep up!! Credit to both engines though it makes superb filming. 5*. Perhaps 6201 could have been given a clear run at the incline and I am sure would have done it in fine style with the load she had.

  • @rosegrovempd1 Thanks :) Not sure on the Number, but Leander was given a clear run single loco, which made it to the top, and she had Less tractive power than 6201 so i'm sure 6201 could have done it no problem, although the reason for a banker is so they can reverse the set at Landor Street Junction into Tyseley without needing to run round. Cheers

  • 5 star video.

  • @molzips Thanks :)

  • Utterly fantastic! You've got to love the gallant little tank engine on the rear! Such a contrast to Princess Elizabeth. 5* and faved.

  • @Jonnyvalenta Thanks :) The tank looks like its working much harder than Princess Elizabeth, the noise was incredible. cheers :)

  • Absolutely excellent.

  • @jammiebeasts Cheers :)

  • Great shots! Back in 1999/ 2000 The SVR's Standard 4 tank 80079(?) banked a Black 5 up here - but any steam tour banked by steam is a sight to behold on the Lickey!

  • Wow! Great stuff! Ive never seen a loco spill out so much!

  • @Javelin395 cheers :)

  • good video m8 ,,and nice too see lizzie workin hard with the panner loco at the rear

    5* and a fav

  • ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! 5*

  • @jules46443 Cheers mate :)

  • @782sirbrian Many thanks for your kind words!
