touchscreens are definitely the way things will go in the future, but so far all the companies using them seem to treat it as an alternative solution for novices to use a computer.

I don't think it's ever going to be widely adapted until they come up with an interface that lets you do regular work faster than a keyboard/mouse.

agreed about the whole touch concept and method. the way companies are using it is dumb. and typing is much faster, it seems using touch on desktop machines is very unpractical. compared to how you mentioned the ipod touch and iphone. other devices that should have touch abilities are mostly handheld devices because thats more of a practical use. The device is in your hand and your able to use it without cramps and issues like the HP magic with the whole touch concept they use.

Why the hell would you spend extra money for a touch screen? Its definitely not practical. You can do everything with a mouse and keyboard...also with a screen that big it'll really hurt your eyes if you need to sit close enough to touch the screen. Plus, don you think your arm will be sore after 15 minutes of trying to read an article and scrolling up and down on that thing? Definitely not a computer for everyday home use. Can probably only run shitty games on it too.

I grew up with Macs and DOS, but Windows is still my favorite. With some simple shell and Kernel tweaks, Vista is also quite amazing on a powerful machine as well.

One thing Mac has always lacked is extensive 3rd-party software, something the video-game crash of '84 taught us can kill even the most powerful machines.
