The notion that Israel would be destroyed if we did not intervene on their behalf militarily is simply untrue. They have one of the most powerful militaries in the world and a huge pool of experienced personnel.

I enlisted in the Marines and volunteered to serve in Iraq because Saddam Hussein was supposed to have had WMD and be a threat to our security, not because some doctor somewhere in his country gave some unspecified type of medical assistance to an al Qaeda operative.

If this was true a draft would have been enacted and I don't see this happening. I have seen kids joining because they want to serve their country. They are making an adult decision. You say 10000 people are getting out. How many are retirees? How many are going into National Guard or reserves?

I spent five years in the Marines and got out this past May. When I left, I was a canvassing recruiter in middle Georgia.

The Marines have been offering bonuses up to $50k for people to reenlist, but they've been falling short of their retention goals. As a consequence, they've been filling the gap with initial assessments. They are struggling in that regard as well and are now allowing more Tier IIs, CAT IVs, and moral waivers.

The reason why a conventional draft has not been instituted is because they're back-dooring folks by stop lossing them and calling them up from the IRR. They're also playing games with numbers. They're accepting people where they can, in non-critical non-combat MOS's, and falling short in critical fields. They're doing this so that they can claim 100% retention and initial assessment. The problem is that those critical jobs aren't being filled. David Chu has talked about this extensively.

CAT IV-- <31 on the AVAB, which usually means they're functionally illiterate.

Tier II--Alternate credential holder, usually a GED. Tier I is a high school grad.
