WTF is the story of the pilots only dropping the landing gear 10 sec's before touch down.( Look at 4 : 48 till touch down.) There is no room for error there..

They were bleeding too much energy. Had they put the gear down sooner they probably would have been short the runway by 10's-100's of yards. Nice move on the pilots part.

The shuttle often has escort planes/fighters that fly along with it during landing, I think that was one of them.
