lol, i use live crawlers, maggots, mealies, and leeches, if it was legal here, i'd use live fish as well!

you obviously have no clue about fishing, especially fishing in heavy pressure, competitive waters for cash like me... i fund vacations with my wife off of live bait.

Depends, when the oxygen level is up like during the summer and early ice fishing season they hit like this because the oxygen level allows them too... but sometimes they just latch on to your hook and you dont know they are there for a bit.

It looked like the hook was a treble hook. I normally use a single hook. I did try using a treble hook last year.  I missed three in a row and then switched back to the single hook. I thought the treble hook would work better but it didn't seem to. However, I should point out I was using a bobber in the Summer and waited until the fish paused and than swam away from me to set the hook. Just hoping someone might have some thoughts.

the problem with just letting it sitting untill he runs with it is he can spit it out... your best bet is to rig it with a single hook if u are through the back or if u want a front mouth hook.... take the trebble off and slide the non hook side through the back of the gill plate and out its mouth... and attach with a swivel leader.... i like this because it doesnt kill the bait as quickly.... as far as bobbering....use a slide bobber that will slide about a foot before going under thats

slide to let the fish take it without feeling the resistance and as soon as u see that bobber move or the line tension tighten set the hook with a quick jerk.... everybody has there methods but this seems to work great for me.... expecially with pike or walleye

Maybe I should try sliding the leader through the gill. I've seen leaders designed to do just that but I've always thought that it would slow the bait down.

The thing I thought was odd was that when I use a single hook and wait till the fish paused then swam away works about 70% of the time but I missed three in a row when I tried the treble hook. Maybe I should try it again.

Just curious how often do you catch a fish when you get a bite?

I think 15 - 18 inchers should be kept to eat and anything bigger needs to be released to spawn because pike is tasty but i want them to be around for years to come, anyway it sort of keeps the population in good numbers if you take home one or two

YOU ARE TALKING WALLEYES MAN,NOT PIKE. For pike in most areas the size limit is 26-32 inches. So any fish between 26-32 is a keeper. Smaller then 26 and you get more bones then meat. But for a walleye 15-18 is perfect....
