a very high quality and original cassette recorder i have never seen one. thank you for the video i will soon post a video of the incredible uher cr 210 recorder
i don't have another melted roller to make a vid (you don't find Wollensak machines everyday here in Italy, i was VERY lucky to find a 50 hz unit)
Anyway, the idea is simple, just carefully cut a new tire from a piece of slick, suitably sized rubber hose and put it on the pinch roller's original brass core
I used to have the stereo version of that deck which was the well known Advent 201, the first deck with Dolby noise reduction circa 1971. That think was a tank. I believe it, if memory serves, it had an idler rather than a belt. The really odd feature of mine was, although it was stereo, it had just one VU meter which you could switch from left channel to right, or have it read the average of the two channels.
I just found one of these Wollensaks while cleaning out the barn. Unfortunately it has a melted pinch roller...seems like this was a common Wollensak problem.
If you ever manage to get that roller fixed, (maybe coat it with rubber, put a ring an it?), I would love for you to make a vid of it with voice record and music record quality test! Trust me, the record quality is AM-AZ-ING!!
It's an easy fix, just clean the brass pinch roller core with a strong degreaser soap of the type used to clean baked grease from oven pans, then carefully cut a piece from the inner rubber pipe of a metal shower hose and glue it on the pinch roller's core, this worked fine with my Wollensak.
Excellent recorder! I see that radio talk show is getting to you! It should because we all may be numbered in the not too distant future! It's a way for the government to keep track of us! Eeeeeeeh!!!!!:-(
awesome! that was nice of the person who sent you the replacement part. thank you whoever you are! i also see you replaced the speaker too. i got some stuff that needs to be fixed too. my 1950 rca bullhorn tube radio will no longer have itz original anymore, but i did restored the matching 45 record changer on new years day. happy new years rick!
I doubt radio ever played this "Technologic" song by Daft Punk. Because for one thing I never heard that song on the radio, also you record most of your songs off the radio onto tape.
I used to record tapes off CD, but then when I started downloading music, I recorded MP3s onto tape, then I started burning CDs, then I started to rely almost solely on MP3 players as I discovered how their "shuffle" mode has been preceived as a factor to render music radio "obsolete" as most music on radio is stupid nowadays. Because by that time I stopped listening to radio as a primary means to enjoy music.
The song you hear at 1:11 is "Technologic" by Daft Punk.

The homemade amp never ended up going in this, and the the chip was put in the original circuit board.

Is that stereo? What is the sound quality like on headphones? (could you record a wav/mp3 of a line out recording?)cheers

It's only mono, and if you want, I might make you a video with the audio straight out of this machine.

I didn't know you like Daft Punk.

Can you get that at a hardware store? I had found a 2551AV machine that's got a bad roller.

the inner rubber pipe inside a metal spiral shower hose will do fine

Yes, it does use idler drive from an AC motor, something usually not found in a cassette recorder.

How often do you buy blank tapes? How long do you usually buy?

I am in to vintage recorders myself.
That's a sweet machine you got there!
Yes these old gals recorded 10 times better than the digital crap they got now.
I remember when these recorders were new..
I grew up using them so I know the difference from experience.

Could you possibly make a video on how that's done? I'm a little confused, but might have some of an idea. Thanks.

Glad it's working again!! Entertaining and interesting. Also glad you did not fall off the mountain. However you still may need Oxygen.
