Nice motor! I have to say, I dare bet that these old classics are miles more reliable than the modern plastic that needs a laptop to tell the mechanic whats wrong as where on these beautys all you need to do is know where to look for the problem if something goes wrong. I would love to own one but the price of petrol/diesel in the UK at a world record high (60% on taxes) would render my Dodge Coronet more or less a display car on the drive as I would not be able to afford to drive it.
Great video and a great car! Back in those days, I purchased my mother's 1958 Royal 4-door sedan from her, and it was one fast car. Everybody wanted to drag race against me, but I played it cool & drove like a little old lady (except when the time was absolutely right!). And the ride was fantastic, comfortable and stable. Wish I'd kept that car. Thanks for posting your video! .
Depends upon who owns and maintains them. I had a '58 Belvedere 2-dr ht I was the second owner of. I bought it with over 130 thousand original miles and sold it at just over 180K with rebuilding the carb, dist and generator. I'll never allow someone to say unreliable. I drove it over 60 miles every day and it never failed me 40 years old as it were then.
yes I didnt mean to say they were unreliable, I have a 1978 lincoln that I drive roughly everyday in the summer to work...and its hard to make it purr despite having only around 70k miles-----so thats why I thought it would be tricky to keep a dual carburated car running nicely
my problem could also be the smog controls that were introduced in the late 70s that screwed with the output of the engine...anyways I like the car
Beautiful looking car - the 4dr was released in Australia as a custom royal with a 361 - 4bl carb and torque transmission - the 361 was also put in Dodge trucks -
Lovely. Im from New Zealand and I used to have a 58 custom royal wagon that was used as a hearse. Man we had some fun in that big old black car!! Very hard to get girls in the back though!!! Problem was there was a little Dodge in the rust.
Great car for all time, no matter what the cost of gas is!! These cars and all of the vehicles of the '50's were not actually planned to ever really be obsolete. They wanted to sell u new models every 3 years but these cars were designed to last for all time. They truly WERE a testament to the time they represent!

Yep I was a lil slip of a 15 year-old sitting on fenders changing plugs when
those came out. They'd pass everything but a GAS STATION.
Now if we can just GET RID of the CRIMINALS keeping gas at $4, and open
up our vast, untapped TRILLIONS of barrels of oil at Gull Island, AK and
The Bakkens, ND, (more sweet crude than Saudi Arabia & Iran combined),
we could have 50 cent gasoline again someday.
Key is TAKING AMERICA BACK from the HIJACKERS WHO STOLE IT in '63.

how hard were these cars from new (or now)to keep in good running shape??
im used to single carburated vehicles being a hassle, I'd hate to own something with two

Everything on this car was factory original and had 40K miles. The engine is the Super D-500 361.
