  • LSDSTAR lol

  • Timeline of this STAR that I know of, if anyone's interested:

6/11/2009 - STAR recorded and is shitty.

    6/14/2009 - Video uploaded.

12/12/2009 - Even shittier than this video. Radar is fuzzy and illegible, the LDL disappears, little orange left in background.

12/30/2009 - STAR is cleaned up a bit. Orange has returned to background, most light-blue screens are back to the normal blue (except for random flickers on the 36-hr). LDL doesn't disappear anymore. Icons and radar still fail to animate.

  • looks like an acid trip, hehe :)

  • This is freaking daffy!

  • We're staying in Tucumcari again tonight.

They still have this piece of shit, but it's showing even bigger signs of degradation. The radar is now fuzzy and illegible, the LDL cuts off randomly, there is hardly any sign of orange left on the background. I'll take a video if I can, but don't hold your breath.

  • The XL is better than a Intellistar.

  • One comment...The Cable Provider? How about "Comcast".

  • Whoa! That's extreme degredation!

What causes the background to be that shade of light blue? I know it's degradation but I don't think that color actually exists in the 4000 though.

The EF sun icon and the almanac look psychedelic! The "dragon" is visible on the new moon.

I always wondered what that "Since midnight" style of wx ticker was for, I figured it was some archaic one from the 80s since that is about the only peroid I've seen Wx 4000 or 3000 use that style of ticker I never knew that

  • Wrong again. The WS Jrs. are older than the 4000, and they don't have any signs of being phased out.

The XLs are still cheaper than an IntelliStar. The ISs cost thousands, and if this cable company can't even afford a graphic card replacement for its dying 4000, then obviously they won't be able to afford anything much better than the XL.

Please get your facts straight and use legitimate points, else I'm going to block you.

  • Ironically the IS's equipment is far cheaper to build new (a FreeBSD PC vs SGI O2). All profit. ;)

  • And? If XLs are more affordable and probably a better decision for Tucumcari's cable company, then there'd be no need for an IntelliStar.

  • Actually, it is. XL units are still around, although they are much more isolated compared to the IntelliStar, and the WS 4000, which is seen in this video, is even more isolated. This is not an emulator by the way.

Also, the only reason they would upgrade to an XL is because is is more common to upgrade from 4000 to XL, rather 4000 to IntelliStar, at least from what I have observed. I could still be wrong.

  • Jazzolicious, I suggest you get your facts straight before saying that.

XLs are still out and about.

  • They need an XL. Badly

  • lol, notice how TWC's logo turns pink while the radar is trying to animate.

    :P

  • Woah, that's seriously messed up!

  • I think its interesting how each 4000 degrades in its own 'unique' way. This one seemed to have a lot of problems with the gradient color layers being displayed properly. While weatherdaddy's STAR for example had many problems with text changing colors and the radar screen glitching.

This has got to be the first time I've ever seen the regional icons freeze when trying to animate..

  • Yeah, you're right about that...

I haven't seen too many degraded 4000s, but the ones that were just had the common problems (like the fuzzy background).

When I saw THIS, on the other hand, I just HAD to dig out my camera.

  • hi i live in Tucumcari New Mexico people you shold all come here to town louie ouch????

  • I'm never seen a 4000 messed up like that before. It also must be rare to find one with a weather sensor hooked up.

  • Good Lord, it looks like Queer Eye For the Straight Guy got ahold of this 4000!

  • Great Scott! A malfunctioning WeatherStar 4000! This one needs more maintenance, and a video card replacement.

  • Oh wow, that's in the worst shape I've ever seen. Also, look at the LDL. They still have a local sensor hooked up to it! I haven't seen one that still uses a sensor

  • Wait, what do you mean? All of the WeatherSTARs have that.

  • Yes, they all have an LDL. Normally it would say "Conditions at Tucumcari" like the others, But this one starts with "Local Temparature: 63F". Up until the mid/late 90s, TWC sold an optional sensor package that could be hooked up to a weatherstar (never seen it used with a Jr, though) to provide the current conditions (on the LDL) at the headend site. This STAR must've been at this location for a long time

  • Oh, sorry, I didn't notice that. :P

  • you cant download it at taiganet, where else can i download this?

  • WOW MAN...

  • WOW... That video card is in serious need of cleaning or replacement! That poor 4000. :-(

  • Yeah, no kidding.

  • I agree. This 4000 is sick, much like the Topeka 4000, back in 2006.
