Thanks for taking the time to explain. I have an h3000 and was somewhat disappointed that it's ce2 preset only gave about 75% of that intro sound. Now that you've posted this clip I can definitely see how the ff could add that swirling effect that ce2 alone is missing. I also recall the "famous" photo of edge's rs-10's from the elevation tour where you can see the h3000 and ff sharing the same loop, presumably in series together, not sure about which is first though
@jeffclark42 Your'e welcome - Yeah besides my ears that photo was one of the things that clued me in to this... ;) The FF can be bypassed internally via MIDI so that's partly why I assume it didn't need it's own loop.
@4nkam Thanks - Sure, it's an older (circa 1989-1990) Crybaby circuit with a reissue red "Fasel" (mod by me) inductor that I took out of the pedal. By attaching an optocoupler to the circuit one can keep the audio signal inside the rack, and place the foot controller at a distance. R.G. Keen has a nice article mentioning how to do this on his GEOFEX website. (Search for "The Technology of Wah Pedals.") I plan to do a little write up on this on my blog.
@Trabant1989 Very cool. I've read up a lot on the remote wah idea but it's a bit over my head, haha. I have owned several remote wahs though. Would love to rackmount a teese or something, haha. Do you have any issues using the boss pedal as a controller? A couple of mine use them as well but it's not a normal dunlop/vox style wah.
@4nkam The FV300 took some getting used to at first but I prefer it now over the Dunlop controller. The sweep is really big in comparison, so in a way you have a lot more control over the sound (though you need to move your foot a lot more to get the same effect as before). In other words, slow sweeps are easier, but making quick movements will certainly get your ankle/foot muscles more exercise compared to the Dunlop.
@jeffclark42 Thanks Jeff. I set up a patch on the HD500 that is "Crystal-Echoes-ish" and then put the FF after it. The HD500 is not nearly as refined as an Eventide though, obviously. I'm pretty confident Edge used H3000, FF, and delay for that sound. I will try and post a clip demo'ing this using a Crystal Echoes plugin... and hopefully someday I'll get an Eventide. IMO "Crystal Echoes" by itself is lacking that "swirly" character. If you listen to the DVD you can hear a slow "swoosh."
@TheAmalgamut I think the main ingredient comes from the technique of using a herdim pick-- you hold it backwards to that the grip swipes the strings.
Outstanding, not many covers of this version, which to me is a favorite mostly because of Edge's otherworldly solo. So aside from the wah, is your chain basically LP > POD HD500 > AC30?
@silkensky Thanks! I updated the description to include FX used. I used my big rack and only used the HD500 on the intro here, but when I used to play it live with my band I used the HD500 for everything.
@Trabant1989 Thanks Dave. Since you have a remote wah now, may I request a full cover of Zooropa? Would especially like to see how you approach the second part of the song with the heavy trem. If youre feeling adventurous... :)

Great cover. Never thought to use the filter factory on the intro, always thought it was just crystal echoes 2 and delay. So how are using the ff????
