I have read his introduction to his book Light on Yoga and I don't sense a fraud here. This man has been practicing what he preaches for longer than most of us have been walking this planet.

As a westerner I started a yoga practice 2 years ago and find it very beneficial, one of the best things I could have done.

I´m also a westerner and I have been in India for a long time, but I did not have the chance to meet Iyengar in Pune.

You know the Tree by the fruit it bears.

Honestly, Iyengar is honest in his approach to Yoga and you can read Tree of Yoga to understand it.

Tree of Yoga is one of the most wonderful books about Yoga, ever made.

He is teaching a pratical Yoga, The Yoga teached by him, is accessible for anyone, everyone.

i downloaded Light on Life, and his focus on asana and pranayama and the significance behind it makes yoga and the path accessible to all, without amorphous ideas of meditation and concentration. he has granted practicality to an subject viewed as esoteric and that is wonderful. and holy crap, this guy is 90?!?! i mean come on, the proof is in the pudding. this guy is crazy sharp!!

I have great respect and admiration for Mr Iyengar and his monumental contribution to Yoga. I'm surprised however how tetchy, argumentative, and even - dare I say it - nervously arrogant he appears in this video clip. He does not seem, at least superficially, to have the quiet peace in his body manner or in his style of verbal exchange that I might have expected from one who devotes his life to Yoga.

I am an Indian. His style of speaking is Indian, emotionally honest, direct and simple in delivery. His behavioural style is almost a dance- emotionally evocative, alive. We Indians honour such behaviour and speech. The West honours a style of speaking that has political finesse, pokerfaced and is "sophisticated?!". The behaviour honoured in the west is non-movement!!! It is this same expressive evocative nature and simplicity that has allowed him to deliver this complicated art to the masses.

I am an Indian by origin. Most of these Indian spiritual gurus are frauds. The ones who attract westerners and make money are 110% frauds. Yoga is good for flexibilty but it ends there. The advanced yoga postures are extremely dangerous and have driven a few people insane. This may explain why BKS looks edgy. Basic yoga is good for flexibilty but doing the headstand is a very bad idea as it interfers with the body's natural harmony and balance.

don't be silly, even western medicine has finally come to terms regarding the benefits of yoga practice. I am not sure how this guy could be a fraud? Is he asking you to worship him? If you want a fraud, try Sai Baba.

To broadcast opinions on BKS Iyengar is wise when you studied at least one of his books, let's say "Light on Yoga"; broadcasting uninformed opinions on quite delicate subjects shows only ignorance and ego-centerism, I would like to encourage other readers of this note to take BKS Iyengar most seriously...
