  • This being March 23, 2008 as I type this... the 4/1 date reminds me of one thing... Winter 07-08 might not be over yet... ugh.. I'm in Central Vermont where snow was still blowing across US-2 like a it should be around Super Bowl Sunday... not Easter Sunday. I grin to all.. as only a New Englander can after this comment.

  • The upcoming season of white and blue and snow and freeze will hopefully give us some snow. At least a blizzard. I think it's getting too warm nowadays. It keeps getting hotter and hotter in the summer.

  • April fools storm was crazy. 3 feet of snow and 2 days later 50 degrees.

  • Does anyone have the campaign clip that went with this package (Like a light in the Window)?

  • I dont really watch WBZ 4. But sometime i hope i can watch it.

  • Gotta love the music. After this I think was the fall of WBZ.

  • I must say being a fan of TV and having a major in Journalism I have to say this was one of my favorite and one of the best WBZ openings ever along with the Michael Whalen Millenium intro. Is there anyway they can bring this package back after the WCCO package runs its course?

  • Another great BZ clip - a classic snowstorm too!

The only thing that is odd about this open is all of the talent shots seem fabricated - everyone is standing in front of a camera in the field with a new logo 4 microphone - the talent shots in previous packages always appeared more legitmate - like Bob Lobel in front of a crowd at a game or Bruce talking to kids at a school....

Also was this open only used for a few months - I saw another 11PM open from 12/97 without the talent shots...

  • Yes, I agree, they do seem fabricated. Actually, I think this is the last time BZ used talent shots in an open.

  • Bob Lobel's seemed less artificial. And Joyce Kulhawik...erring on the side of...ehhh....uhhh. The rest should be in-office, or on the anchor desk.

  • I think this package came from Sept 96. I'm not sure when the other one was used. Maybe June or Aug.

  • You are right the Newsworks era was one of WBZ best graphics/music graphics.

  • The news set they were using at this point looks VERY similar to the one WNDS was using for their last couple years of broadcasting news. I wonder if they bought the set when WBZ was done with it?

  • Finally, a WBZ video with the proper version of the Newsworks theme! This was one of their best packages, it should have lasted longer than it did..but its understandable that they brought out the new theme and "red" look for the 50th anniversary starting 1/98..

The Blizzard of '97 was right up there with '78, and probably the latest winter storm ever in New England history.
