Interesting info on the house sparrow ! We often see them around our house, too. And yes, although they still seem to appear in large numbers at least here in our region (Germany), they are now on a red list for threatened species.
I was surprised to read in @zeeox's comment about a decline in house sparrow populations. Personally, I've not noticed that in New York City, where for decades I've watched them taking dust baths in many of the city's parks. Now I'll have to look with a sharper eye...
Their cousins the song sparrows have been our neighbors in PA for a long time, too. They like our pine trees, but have also been known to out-compete the intended residents of our bluebird houses.
Finally, something on one of your desert videos that I can see here in the UK too! House Sparrows are still common enough over here, like they are in most US cities as you mention... but in serious decline. It could be that they'll eventually end up becoming extinct and we'll have to ask for some back to re-introduce! Cheers for the upload.
Good info on the house sparrow, our feeders are swarmed by these and I guess the commonality has prevented me from appreciating them the way I should! I will make it a point to post some videos of only house sparrows :-)
