Does anyone else feel like the lighter bursts like honey and well, light burst, look so much better in person or in videos like these? It seems like website pictures make them look like they have no burst at all. Maybe just me
I recently picked up a mint condition '78 Gibson Les Paul Custom (Tobacco Sunburst) with original hardshell case at a local flea market for $375. Drool, fellahs. Just go ahead and drool...
no. the classics are. the les paul standard faded is on par with the standard, it just has a different finish. the classics however just sound terrible. usually the people who buy classics are the people who only buy a les paul for the name, and dont care about tonal difference. i.e ...kids.
I'm 15 and I've been saving for just under a year to afford a Les Paul Standard, which I bought today (well actually I was looking for the Sg '61 reissue, but it ended up being destroyed by the LP)
but..I have a 1993 LP classic..the guitar is amazing and sounds A LOT BETTER thant the one in the video and every standard i tried in the last four yeras. Obviously..not with his original pickup :D
that would be an understatement. usually people who buy les paul for the names go for the STUDIO & VINTAGE CLASSIC models. the only difference between a classic and the standards are the pickups, i owned both of them and me being a "kid" preferred the higher output 496r and 500t which allows my hughes and kettner to hit that sweet spot. the standards are good too but its just too oldie for some ppl. btw i do know this is replying to a 6 month old post =]
the ORIGINAL classic series was pretty good, i just didn't like the bare maple cap and the pickups, but i also found the quality wasnt as good as the standard, but with gibson you get what you pay for, the new classic series however just doesnt belong in gibsons line up. i wouldnt mind owning 1 of the first classic series, but this one is just plain bad.
To each his own, but you are definitely in the minority if you think classics sound better! We A/B'd them many times and they sound ok: until you play a std or custom at the same settings. then no comparison maybe the H&K is voiced for that sort of sound tho, never tried LP classic thru one.
man in america the guitars ars so expensive here in germany you can buy a gibson les paul standard for nearly 1700Euro
You can get bottom of the range Les Pauls for that price but not ones with a AAA top. If you ever see a Gibson LP with flames that go ALL THE WAY to the edges for less than 2000 Euros buy it!!
Why not American flag? You can say many things about America, but when it comes to quality of their products, especially guitars, seeing the star spangled banner only makes me wanna buy it. If I had $3500, of course.
are u fucking serious, Gibson is so different from epi it's ridiculous, different pickups, tuners, wood carves, weights, qualities, and prices. U know nothing about guitars!
SlashUFC are you fucked in the head? not a single component on an epi is in any way the same as what is on a gibson. not a single part. they are incredibly different guitars.
i don't know if its gonna be too hard to explain the difference between the set of 490r and 498t pickups vs the burstbucker ones but could someone try and explain. ty
I'll make an attempt, Basically the 490r and 498t pickups are "hotter" pickups than the burstbuckers and have a higher output. This results in the 490r and 498t pickups having a more shrill kind of hard rock sound, while the burstbuckers with there lower output have clearer highs and a more rounded sound like you'ld hear Slash play.
It was indeed, this particular guitar sold a little while ago, but we're likely to get another similar one in soon! Feel free to enquire through the website about our current range.

Americans make fantastic furniture, guitars, fly rods, shotguns/rifles etc. If the guy wants to put up an American flag, that's great too.

remember that this is just a compressed vid though. i see your point though, in the end, tone is in the fingers.

epis are good beginning guitars, but gibsons are easier, more comfortable to play and sound better. not to mention different parts...
