  • anyone notice these martian meteorites look a bit like alh84001

  • a triangle on 1:20 ?

  • I feel sorry for Beagle , didn't have a chance getting stuck in the crater

  • Oh fuck! TEH WATERS OF MARS WILL KILL US ALL!!!

  • I love that they are doing geology on other planets. We need more rovers on mars. We could learn so much from rovers.

  • It's amazing how far we have got. Landing on another planet seemed impossible only 100 years ago.

I hope we find life some time, but I think it will take a few centuries.

Life out there EXIST, it has to! The universe is so big if only civilizations exists on earth it's really really weird.

  • check out boyd bushman! the guy is one of the founders of antigravity propulsion, he sayes that its nothing to do with gravity, but a simple experiment of two magnets of the same sign that are compressed together against their own force will fall slower than an object of the same weight, which defies the newtonian physics of gravity! its very important. then we could get to these other life forms with that type of technology, i have the video on my favorites if you want to see, its very neat!!

  • That's a load of bs, boxa888

  • dam it is.. it would be cool though. so what happens then they both hit the ground at the same time. so how do you think its possible then?? i have no clue, i do tesla wireless power transfer and they said that doesnt work, so i am openminded, but if you know how it works please tell me!! thanks man!

  • We don't need to look for life in the universe. E.T.s thousands of years are with us.

  • Look at Sumerians, Mayans, Egyptians left traces.

  • @pierreo33

    Fermi paradox. Where are they?

Its almost certain that microbial life exists elsewhere, but civilizations are fairly complex, and if they can evolve so easily, then why are they not all over the stars, why havent we run into any?

  • The distance between stars is huge. Even by travelling at the speed of light, getting to the closest star would take 5 years.

  • Beautiful pictures.

  • I'm a fan. You guys are doing the right stuff, that's for sure.

  • Pretty damn cool video!

  • excellent work!

  • 3,03. i know what,s better, send me. don,t care if it,s a 1 way trip. we need to find life elsewhere if only to shut the religious nutters up. shit what am i thinking, they,ll only claim god made that aswell.

  • i saw the special on TV about them but its a couple years old -- are both of the rovers still going -- I know one had a bad wheel

It's amazing the batteries haven't gone bad yet

  • Solar

  • yes they are solar for recharge but they have batteries -- the batteries keep them going at night and keep them from freezing by running the computer -- batteries only regharge so many time before they go bad --

  • Coconut, the solar panels charge on-board lithium-ion batteries. I don't know the precise design of the system, but it is very possible that if the batteries fail, the rovers would not be capable of daytime operation using just the solar panels.

  • Thanks for the Info

  • wow this is the best video!! Great

  • 1.56 - i am correct in thinking that the man-made looking circular shape was created when the rover was taking samples, or is it one of the crystals they mentioned?

  • The rover did it. The crystals in the rock may be large for crystals, but they are still small.

  • @kennydaluz they have a grinder on the rover to remove the outer weathered layed and expose the body of the rock

  • Thanks for the upload, great video!

  • Kudos to the engineers who built these rovers.

  • LOL, that's funny.

What about the movie "Planet 51"?

  • Incredible!

  • Great video, the rovers are brilliant!

  • wholenother

  • very cool

  • Maybe the Martian locals have adopted and are maintaining the rovers and yet we have no idea about it. =O That's why they've been going for so long now.

  • Reminds me of an old printer ad where aliens are hurriedly printing off fake images of barren martian landscapes and holding them up to the rover camera as it rotates, to trick NASA.

  • Amazing and beautiful. It's like reading an A.C. Clarke novel.

  • Our descendants really will grow up on Mars, what a fascinating thought.

  • What's better than a rover? BEING THERE. At least NASA didn't screw this mission up like it did the human mars mission.

  • what?

  • In the 90's, one of the contractors (I think it's was Locheed) put a proposal to go to mars for 6 months using all existing technology and for a very low price. NASA initially loved it, then politics got involved. NASA created a monstrosity of a mission, using every single technology being developed, 20 years in the future, with a budget that would never pass anyway. HERE IT IS 2010 and we are no closer to a mars mission than in the 80's. We COULD HAVE GONE.

  • simply breathtaking!!!

  • Awesome. I wanna go there

  • This is so friggin cool!

  • That's one well-built little Wally.

  • Gives me a boner!

  • Wow! How fascinating is that!

  • At least we are getting bang for the buck with the rovers.

  • WoW just WoW

  • I volunteer for the mission. Pick me! Pick me!

  • It's crazy when you realize that these rovers were only expected to be operational for a couple months-- and now here they are YEARS later still totally operational and continuing to find new things.

  • Fantasticle!!!

  • That's fantastic just finding those huge chunks of meteor sitting there!

  • I wonder how the water would leave the planet.

  • @tHecOmMeNtErSrEtUrN

It evaporates. Or it gets diced (from radiation) into it's components Hydrogen and Oxygen, and Hydrogen escapes into space even easier.

  • This is what I live for :)

    Partly, anyway!

  • This is awesome

  • Awesome. I can't wait for humans to go to Mars. Surely it'll happen in my lifetime...

I just can't get over that these are pictures from an ALIEN FUCKING PLANET! It's like science fiction.

  • The first man mars mission is schedualed around 2030! So yes it is very likely to happen in our lifetime!!! (well unless you are old lol:P)

  • @nemo3590

Probably won't happen until we make a space elevator. While humans are nifty and 'efficient' 'machinery' to have, they also come with hefty requirements that'd take up too much mass (drink and food and oxygen etc.).

A lunar base would also alleviate these problems, if we could cultivate our food there.

Although it might be worth it, even if it was just to instill dreams.

  • Wow. Makes me wonder how long it's going to take to get the first man on Mars. Oh, what a wonderful day to wait for!

  • awesome!

  • You mean like, spear throwing in each others heads? Damn, we'd need a lot of hydraulics to do that.

  • Is the gravity on Mars the same as Earth?

  • Mars has about 1/3 the gravity of Earth (0.376 g).

That is, acceleration due to gravity is about 3.711 m/s² at the Martian equator.

  • Extraordinary imagery! There is so much to learn about Mars, and if projects like this one continue to exceed expectations 5 fold and more, I am confident we will soon obtain answers to some of the really big questions.

  • "I'm only advocating friendly competition"

With guns...and nuclear bombs....maybe even an atomic bomb here and there.

  • How do you date a crater on another planet? How do they know Endeavour is older?

  • You look for overlapping features. The newer one overlap the older ones. Also, weathering... the more weathered they are, the older they are.

  • @MortQ42 Ta. I knew it would be a common sense answer. I should have guessed the weathering bit from what we observe on Earth.

  • Probably from the weathering, Mars is pretty windy.

  • These images are wonderful.

  • geekgasum

  • From this perspective I have to say our ancient ideas about flat Earth and vengeful gods who forbid humans to eat pork just seem so utterly infantile and outdated. If there indeed is a creator of this universe, I doubt he is anything like our ancestors imagined him.

  • Man I'm just geeking out about these images. It's like being there, such clear images.

    Just wonderful.

  • was thinking the same awesome

  • kick ass...

  • Truly amazing, Its amazing to see how similar, yet extraterrestrial Mars is to Earth! The surface of Mars looks so inviting. it feels like we could just go and have a walk there just as easily as we would on Earth!

  • GO NASA :)

  • I'm guessing Space Faring countries will start equipping their rovers with machine guns, just in case those pesky other countries try and discover water first...

  • Hahaha

  • @CLRubyHypatia Totally. China, India and Japan have started sending stuff into space. We should do something....

  • Opportunity is going for a road trip!

    That big hole is awaiting!

  • :( rocks are cool. Earth is a rock :)

  • Matthew Golombek's enthusiasm is wonderful. I envy those who have such passion for their jobs.

  • Oh yeah, I agree, there should be new space race (one without threat of armed conflict if possible), return to Moon, mission to Mars, to near-earth asteroids.

NASA is developing its new Orion spacecraft, Chinese seems busy, Europe also needs its own manned spacecraft, developed from ATV maybe.

  • First one to mars wins!!

  • AWESOME.

  • That was amazing

  • Amazing

  • whate!

    mars is cool =)

  • When first manned flight reaches Mars, and first to step out, instead saying something inspirational, shouts "first!". I'm willing to leave that person there. :D

  • I second the notion. Leave that bastard on Mars.

  • @Saukko31

I'd probably say "It's a small... haha just kidding, Did it for the lulz"

    That would kick ass.
