at 6:36 the caller says "They just use Matt, they don't think for themselves."
That was funny. As if thinking for yourself was even remotely a tenet of religions. "Thinking for yourself" is a mental state he seems to be completely immune to.
This proves there is no God because if he existed there is no way he would have ever allowed this guy to call up the show and be his ambassador. Fucking hell.
I was going to say that I really don't understand why theists still try. They have no basis for an argument and have no rational justification for believing the way they do. So really, the only thing it can boil down to is money, ego, and the fact that they have been so indoctrinated with these ridiculous ideas, that they simply can't handle the reality that it's all a farce.
I feel so bad for those kids. This is my message to the idiot parents: We live in an age of access to information is very accessible. It's not like the dark ages anymore, your kids are going to find out sooner or later. Chances are, they will grow up to fucking hate you, and in the end, you'll be disowned, think twice, assholes...
10:32 to 10:48 - Tracie Harris, fatality. Finish him! That's the way to sum it all up. If something is defensible then one doesn't have to go to the ends of the Earth to avoid defending it.
08:30 to 09:00 - naming fail. It also describes the same phenomenon that occurred when Ricky Gervais started questioning his faith. His brother was about to say something contrary to established Christine doctrine or simply the existence of God and their mother shut him up. Ricky then knew that their mother was hiding something from him. It's "prohibition temptation" - the urge to discover something that's utterly hidden from you.
06:40: "They don't think for themselves." That's a big heap of irony coming from this guy. He doesn't like critical thinking: examining positions and data and determining via logic what is probable and defensible or not. The kids may be looking for Matt to give them answers at this stage in their life, but I'm sure Matt himself would explicate evolution as best he can, step by step until they start to grasp it in their own fashion. This drone has the gall to say the kids are blind followers.
Here's the church's position. "Stop thinking, stop questioning, stop exploring other ideas and shut up and believe what your preacher tells you " !!!!
I DON"T UNDERSTAND WHY Christians get scared when their children or fellow church members read and watch things that compete against Christianity. They say their religion is the right religion, the correct religion, and the only religion. SO IF YOU HAVE THE BEST PRODUCT, WOULDN'T YOU ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO LOOK AT THE COMPETITION?
@bskee001 because they are afraid maybe the kids will not want to be christian, have to get kicked out of the house, and go to hell. even though christianity is right and best always, it does happen where kids still choose to reject it, they don't want their kids to do that like others have done.
@BloodiestMargie Someone told you that? And you took it on faith that they were right? Or did you investigate or talk to the people who were using these terms?

This is where the 1st Amendment should be over-looked and the government should step in and stop this very Dangerous Cult. It sounds as though the "Mind Benders" of this church would have the power to convince the "Sheeple" to kill themselves, family members and those that don't believe in what they push.
Man Made god, Not, god Made Man - Save Mankind, Send all religions and gods back to the Bronze Age never to return - NEVER!
@stevethul1 Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this. In my humble opinion, the First Amendment should never be tampered with, regardless of how much fruitcakeyness the religious whackos spew out of their orifices. So long as they aren't breaking the law, freedom of speech and freedom of religion should remain unhindered. In order for us to enjoy our freedom of speech, it is necessary that we must allow the fruitcakes to have their freedom of religion as well. Honor Thy First Amendment.
@q1000101 Christianity does break the law. I know for a fact you've heard of the Crusades, right? A holy crusade that killed more than half a million Muslims :( Haha, other than that, I really love the show. You have a great mindset and actually listen to the callers beliefs. Other than this Jesus freak.
@eddieischill123 "Christianity does break the law. I know for a fact you've heard of the Crusades, right?"
Wait - we should punish a whole religious ethnicity and *change* a bill specifically created to protect citizens' rights because - 500 years ago - the Catholic church started a war? =P
Punishing people for a law they broke half a millennium ago sounds an *awful* lot like the original sin thing in Christianity. ;p
@q1000101 Are you sure that you could never be convinced to join a suicide cult under any circumstances? I am not. Under the right circumstances I can see myself being taken in by a movement and gradually become brainwashed. I don't think I am immune. So in the same way it is illegal for someone to mix drugs in my drink I think it should be illegal for someone to brainwash me into committing suicide. The only difficulty I see is how you apply such a law practically.
@q1000101 You're right but I the key line there is 'so long as they aren't breaking the law'. The problem is that the 'fruitcakes' often have the power, support and opportunity to make laws allowing further 'fruitcakeyness'. It seems as though either some thing more subtle or something more brutal will need to be done.
@q1000101 No matter how crazy a belief is, it must be legally protected... but it must also be openly ridiculed and exposed as the bat-shit craziness it actually is.
@q1000101 and where does the right to free speech for the children come into play? they aren't given the chance to form their own opinions; free speech is lost for them the moment they're born. just because they're children, and just because it's the teachings of their parents, doesn't make this correct by any means. not only are these kids having their rights infringed upon, they lose them before their even born!
@stevethul1 i do too it's fine to have religions becuase they provide support for people but we shouldnt let them controll the government, schools, of other people's lives. and most enportantly get their heads out of their asses and just accept that other people are going to think differently and just accept it.
@stevethul1 This isn't a cult. These people are not wrapped up by the fiction of religion and creationism. They are providing a good service freeing those who are too blind to see for themselves.
If you gave credit to this vengeful, cruel, bloodthirsty, hysterical, hell retaliating monster religious devotees believe in...... you'd be scared too!
Tracie is really good in both parts of this. She poses very lucid and logical questions and all the caller can say is "At my church we believe this or that". You can hear the fear in his voice.
A fundamentalist Christian will say: "I don't care what you say or what scientific conclusions you show me, I'll still believe in God". An Atheist will say: "Show me the evidence and I'll convert". Now you see why debates are so difficult between these two stances?
@cuevarap well atheists don't say or suggest "show me the evidence and i'll Convert." exactly. Matt said himself that even if god was proven to be real and you saw the evidence it just makes you no longer an atheist because you believe based on the evidence provided to you that god does exist But whether or not he will worship said god is a complete different story. i'm sure you didn't mean that but the word 'convert' made me feel i had to bring it up.
I love Mark's pauses... Tracy "Why do you believe what you believe?" simple, straight forward question, should be easy to answer, even if the answer is BS... but Mark, after being handed down a healthy dose of logic and reason, when asked "Why do you believe what you believe?", has nothing... cause he knows that given what has been already said, it would no longer make sense to give what he would normally say as a reason, we are actually watching him lose his faith (at least temporarily),
If a sincere & 'with all your heart' belief in something triggers extra goal power to achieve something or lighten life loads: fantastic; but that will not make it real. Sorry!
or your experience. Ive lived it and been there. Although I have never had anything like a spiritual experience and the people who say thay have are usually unable to explain it more than they were so bad off before that God had to have intervined. Not credible proof. Although I commend you for your accomplishments I know that we all put in a lot of work to help ourselves and others. Thats why it works. It works because you have a fellowship of people there to help.
to the recovering alcoholic/addict. God didnt get you sober, the fellowship of the AA/NA community got you sober with a lot of work on your behalf. When you get involved in that community and decided to try and get sober you and they along with your sponser do a lot of work to break the living patterens of before and reprogram you to be able to live a clean life. Although they tell you to pray it just a form of medatation to clam the mind and body. Im not shitting on you
I'm so glad this daft, stuttering moron called back.
I love how he sputters out nonsense and threats but never any proof for being such an asshole.
And to know his church is full of assholes like him and that their kids hate them for forcing this insanity on their lives is tragic but not surprising.
It's interesting how many of his responses begin with "My church...". Mark identifies himself as a member of that church. I imagine he would become very hostile if someone started insulting it.
See this is the beauty of atheism .a true atheist never tell anybody to believe in atheism without ur own study or investigation . While all religions want their fallowers to believe in god or religion without asking question just with close brain.
they do global missions because thier target audience in unintelligent and uneducated, and, like most children raised in religious families, will accept the ideas no matter how ridiculous, especially if thier "saviours" are giving them the "magic" of western technology, food, art and culture. the people on top of religion are smart, and they know that can take control of millions. the people who believe are not, and the ones on the bottom will never learn
@LaughTonyLaugh The caller does not seem to be an idiot. He's just been brainwashed into thinking that everything he says is true. His church is the same kind of fundamentalist that believes that we should kill all homosexuals, and that anyone who doesn't submit 99.9% of attention to their fictional God will burn forever in a searing hellfire. Fuck churches, fuck this fake God idea, and fuck fundamental missionaries.
Tracie reminds me a lot of Jennifer Beals. She looks a bit like her and has a lot of similar facial expressions. Speaking of which, Russel actually slightly resembles Seth Rogen, and the douche on the phone sounds like Dane Cook. Lmao. I know, completely unrelated to the topic... just an observation.
Some of these things scare me. It's not a debate society, they have cermons and everyone just agrees. You know what an Atheist does when they are in a group that disagrees on some issues? Discuss them, and it tentions get too high. Find some other friends to hang out with. There are other wonderfull people in the world that do not go to your church!
If the biblical god exists, and Mark really believes it, then why is he so afraid to express his honest opinion vocally? Psalm 139:4. Mark can’t hide his opinion from God inside his own head. So when there’s a voice inside his head screaming “HELL NO, I WOULDN’T WORSHIP SUCH A MONSTER!!” god would know it, and nothing should be stopping him from saying it out loudly. Yet, he’s too damn afraid to say it. His religion has taken away ALL his self-confidence as an individual.
I'll have to hand it to Mark's church preachers, they've achieved an efficient indoctrination goal to the extent that he sounds like a character from a science fiction movie. Scary!
@cuevarap Indeed, he has achived a level of mindcontroll rarely seen outside of fiction, it makes me sad.
I dont know about the schools in the states but here in sweden we have an dedicated class for religion where we encurage the kids to discuss with eachother and the teacher about the material and the religion.
Often these classes invites a representative of that religion for some q and a.
Thats a healthy way of learning bout religion, Marks church is not a healthy way.
@Sweddude I'm from & live in South America but as an admirer of this great nation am concerned about what's happening in their religious realm. By what I learn from you, despite the roman catholic predominance in Latin America, we're conveniently much closer to what occurs in Sweden than in the US. Best wishes for America!
@cuevarap Thank you for your kind wishes. Hopefully the "occupy" movement will continue until some real and lasting benefits are obtained. And my country can regain her worthiness for admiration.
I think this guy is on the cusp of a personal revelation and it scares the shit out of him. It may be scary, but not as scary as going through life without asking questions.
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills.
=> for more information type in google "thedeenshow"
These guys did a really good job fielding these questions, they even gave constructive criticism for the church. I must say that I am quite impressed at their maturity. Good job Tracy and Russell, keep up the good work you are doing well.
If you have sacrificed your critical thinking at the altar of faith, then it's little wonder that you cannot give clear reasons for the hope that you have, surely most Christians would fail the 1 Peter 3:15 test.
Guys Hell(Lake of Fire ) is not real. Please Look up Book of the Dead. A loving ethical being would educate people and not destory them. Love is without fear.
@waterandphotons It makes me almost sad enough to tear up a little. It's just so sad that this type of brainwashing has been allowed and accepted for so long and will continue to be so for at least a century more. Hopefully, it will eventually be seen as the danger it can be and put to an end.
@j919or They take and listen to anyone who isn't belligerent. If you can put forth an argument without being completely hostile to other views they will not have a problem talking to you on the show.
Oh yea right, it's because no Christian can justify thier belief. Not one. I am being serious too, of every christian i've debated...which numbers in the hundreds...not one of them can justify anything. It always comes down to "I have faith". You guys should be ashamed.
@TheKenTerry ""...not one of them can justify anything""
Well then you mustve met more weak or false believers. I challenge u to engage me in debate. I trust in the one that created all things. I was like u, trusting self and doubting God bc he didnt agreee with me.
I have all day to talk about God, i'm part of the 9 percent unemployed :-). Which God are you trying to prove? The Christian one, Islam, or another pagan one?
@TheKenTerry I entrusted myself toGod and He came into my life and changed everything immediately while I was alone. He gives me waves of powerful joy and complete contentment. All of this is in contrast to constantpain of mind that I walked around withall the time.It has been 30 years and Im constantly aware of his presence.I willadmit the the emptiness returns when I harden my self to him.AnywayHe led me ot the bible andGod living in Jesus andJesus living in peoplethat entrust themselves to him
None of this proves his existance. It's a personal experiance, my personal experiance while calling upon him was nothing. I didn't get anything in return, so it's inconsistant.
@TheKenTerry Hmmm. Many people I talk to came to Jesus for their own purposes. In Jesus' time they came for the food and healing. I called on Jesus many times. It wasnt until I called on him to totally change me and do with he as he pleased, that I experienced his presence. Mt 5.3 and was tranformed
When my mother was beating me as a kid I prayed day and night to get out of that situation. To me that proves he either didn't care or doesn't exist. When you call on him with a contrite heart and broken spirit, he is supposed to answer...it's in scripture that he always answers. Since he didn't, I tried looking for physical proof and have found none as well. Personal experiences do not count as proof, there must be something physical everyone can see so nobody can get mixed up.
@TheKenTerry Speak for yourself buddy; I was enslaved in addiction for 18 years and one day cried out to the Lord to take this affliction from me and haven't had a drink or drug in 3 years and no it was not by my own will or decision or anything in my own power that lifted me out of that hell pit of addiction. You have nerve discrediting personal experiences of thousands of ex

This is where the 1st Amendment should be over-looked and the government should step in and stop this very Dangerous Cult. It sounds as though the "Mind Benders" of this church would have the power to convince the "Sheeple" to kill themselves, family members and those that don't believe in what they push.
Man Made god, Not, god Made Man - Save Mankind, Send all religions and gods back to the Bronze Age never to return - NEVER!
stevethul1 2 months ago 2
@stevethul1 Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this. In my humble opinion, the First Amendment should never be tampered with, regardless of how much fruitcakeyness the religious whackos spew out of their orifices. So long as they aren't breaking the law, freedom of speech and freedom of religion should remain unhindered. In order for us to enjoy our freedom of speech, it is necessary that we must allow the fruitcakes to have their freedom of religion as well. Honor Thy First Amendment.
q1000101 2 months ago 38

Hedning1390 1 month ago
@q1000101 You're right but I the key line there is 'so long as they aren't breaking the law'. The problem is that the 'fruitcakes' often have the power, support and opportunity to make laws allowing further 'fruitcakeyness'. It seems as though either some thing more subtle or something more brutal will need to be done.

@q1000101 But should the government take away their children and put them in loving foster homes?
werebee 1 month ago
@q1000101 No matter how crazy a belief is, it must be legally protected... but it must also be openly ridiculed and exposed as the bat-shit craziness it actually is.
TheCycadsAreAudible 1 month ago
@q1000101 and where does the right to free speech for the children come into play? they aren't given the chance to form their own opinions; free speech is lost for them the moment they're born. just because they're children, and just because it's the teachings of their parents, doesn't make this correct by any means. not only are these kids having their rights infringed upon, they lose them before their even born!

@stevethul1 i do too it's fine to have religions becuase they provide support for people but we shouldnt let them controll the government, schools, of other people's lives. and most enportantly get their heads out of their asses and just accept that other people are going to think differently and just accept it.

A fundamentalist Christian will say: "I don't care what you say or what scientific conclusions you show me, I'll still believe in God". An Atheist will say: "Show me the evidence and I'll convert". Now you see why debates are so difficult between these two stances?
cuevarap 2 months ago

Often these classes invites a representative of that religion for some q and a.

I try to be patient as much as possible with christians due to the closing off of that portion of the brain to rational thought.
