  • This song makes me want to explode into a thousand pieces so i can go tell a thousand people about it, an endless dominoe effect of exploding till all thats left is Frank Black and this song.

  • If someone told me to play that chord progression and make a song out of it, I would think it was impossible. Let alone make such a good song. Probably because it is impossible unless you are Charles Thompson.

  • Doesn't get much better than this.

  • Im just glad he didnt have to die to be finally recognised.

  • Was gonna click back. Glad I didn't. Well done man.

  • Good song, Francis.

  • I should listen to more Frank Black...Bumped into a guy I know the other day, and he was saying how Frank writes all his songs on acoustic guitar first. So it made me want to listen to him.

  • for me, this video an others of frank must have millions of views!!!!; this song is so fucking amazing, and this fact makes me feel a little bit special; for apreciate this song, that seems to me like, one of the must beautiful songs that i´ve been heard in my life.

  • I think to date about 65,000 of them views were me lol

  • frank gigalu cop dressed obey negaroooo that wig got dipped in voodoo who knew

  • es un pinche genio, fucking genius

  • is it just me or francis voice looks ALOT like J mascis's from dinossaur jr.

  • @tufosanta YOU can see his voice, too? I thought I was the only one! Really though, J. Mascis has the same quality to his voice, and the delivery is very similar to one facet of Frank's, but to me he is more of a one-trick pony. Not knocking J., but he sounds pretty much the same on everything. Frank has so much more depth and variation to his delivery style. He mixes blues with hardcore with folk, and those screams and growls... You never know what you're gonna get, even in the same song.

  • he looks like a fat baby.

  • dylan worthy

  • Frank Black, I don't know...he just writes and delivers in such a way that just feels like home.

  • AWESOME SONG! THEY DONT MAKE THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE.

  • This man is a genius. If he were Irish we wouldn't stop shouting about him and we'd have a national Frank Black (or Charles Thompson) holiday every May on that day it doesn't rain here. People like this make America great.

  • You meant Nicky Wire is a wire? He is fag not wire. One fuckn talented fag... wearing women clothing, a... lost my point... or...? ... forgetit...

  • This song made my day! Thanks!

  • great guitaristt

  • i love fbf ... this is my favorite .... i watch this again and again.

  • You're a good man, Charles.

  • Here we are 12 years later .. and this song stands the test of time ..sounds modern and rocks rises above 99% of what current " FM " radio is pushing these days be it , " buzz " music " ..." classic rock " " 80's " ..." metal " .." new country " however ..the average Joe is willing to subject himself to the advertising gods , and mindless repetition of " known rock n roll entities " SO, GOD BLESS FRANK BLACK !! for creating a new " branch " .. in the rock n roll tree
  • Charles forever until this fucking planet explode!!!!

Frank Black para siempre hasta que la tierra se vaya al carajo, con todos nosotros.

  • the fat man acometh. his guitar looks so tiny, uku-lele-esque... because he's so fat. nonetheless a great songwriter. long live the fat man frank

  • @astroboirap Look, frank has to be that size to hold all that talent.

  • @eviledna71 haha true.

  • Great Frank B lack videos, dudes.

  • charles is the man!

  • my girlfriend calls me this all the time...Wire

  • This man is one of the GREATEST SONG WRITERS OF ALL TIME...

  • @forrest2378 yes he had to have help from illegal substances on some of the songs he wrote

  • @forrest2378 And that's an understatement ;-)

  • This man is one of the GREATEST SONG WRITERS OF ALL TIME...

  • Amazing you can hear adam buxton at the begining...

Was this recorded for the adam and joe show.... when frank did the vinyl justice thing?....

  • yes it was! a show where we also discovered frank is a big cure and bryan ferry fan.

  • I remember watching that years ago.... it was class!

You gotta love him standing on the doorstep giving a typical FB scream as adam and joe were arriving......

He's also the only artist that they didn't really give any shit about their record collection....

  • Yeah.

  • Classic. All FB/BF songs stand up on their own, no fancy effects, no big studio production, just one man, one guitar. Songwriting distilled.

  • I cant rate 5 stars enough!

  • Very Van. Love it.

  • Video reminds me of a shitty party where you head off to a back room and theres a cool aloof guy in the back strumming a song that catches you and you nod cuz this is where you should be instead of the shitty party and when its done you hand him a beer saying nothing. Its cool and its done and you go home. And you mainly remember the cool guy with the guitar in the back singing this catchy tune and thats all there is and all you need anyway.

    Goodnight.

  • Words of wisdom, found on youtube comments. Finally.

  • ned is dead. yeah ned is... N E D.

  • @ned1171 Black Francis was always that cool guy, party or no party

  • @ned1171 i think most people at the party would pop their head in and think "christ fatty, give it a break, no ones sleeping with you tonight". Me included.

dont bring frank black down with such a wanky comment

  • ive just done the harmonica part for this song...if yer interested?

  • yes .....would like to hear that

  • the man.

  • wow.

  • the ocd in me wants to organize all that crap in the background

  • give it a rest man, even you at times must get tired, you're such a wire.

  • amazing, thanks for uploading this.what does "such a wire" mean ? :)

  • your such a wire =a real card..

    or a " piece of work "

    as I understand it ..

but Frank always really means something else

and it's always damn cool and totally opposite

    of what I was thinking..

    and therein ..lays the beauty

  • very good song, frank is a master; and his personality is like a little baby jajaj

  • anyone think that the 90s was the best time for alternative?

  • He is God. As close as I've seen, anyway.

  • his chord progressions are god-like, every single one of them.

  • Correctamundo

  • frank is so cool i love his stuff

  • Thanks for this video

  • Today's songwriters suck balls. Gents like Frank give you tunes to sink your teeth into. Come on dude, drop the Black Francis persona and go back to the spacy originality that is Frankus Blackus!

  • frank just got back from his night shift at the stipclub, he is a hero

  • Anybody know what kinda guitar that is?

  • the kind that frank black sleeps with

  • This song sounds much better acoustic.

I think the songs on pistolero are good, but the recording is awful. The lead guitarist is unoriginal and cliched and the fuzz effect on the guitars just sounds cheesy and is detrimental to the songs.

  • Frank Black = Awesome

  • Esta me ha salvado la vida, y todas sus canciones!, Frank es la playa en los desvelos con gueritas en MEXICO!

  • Another excellent song I have to say.

  • he'll never sell out

  • Im so glad he didn't sellout go mainstream.

  • A mix between Bob Dylan,Van M and John Lennon. Compliments to him.

  • This is so cool. He sounds just like Van Morrison!

  • Curly on guitar ladies and gentlemen. Curly on guitar.

  • i'm fifteen and he is my idol! i just got an interview with him and i'm really excited to do it!

  • Pistolero is an underrated album, and probably my fave!

  • saw him at a small show in Little Rock years ago. I guess he was prepping for his first Catholics album. I was front and center and accidently bumped his mic stand and he practically ate the mic. I felt bad. But his face looking straight down at me was priceless. Rawk

  • can't get enough of this, anyone know where I can download it

  • he will be somebody fun to hang out with

  • this is so cool love it, LOVE pistolero. thanks for posting this.

  • your such a wire

  • hey idiots cobain himself was quoted as saying he was "basically trying to rip off the pixies" with that song.

  • seriosly why is there such an argument about this? Cobain said it himself...look up the quote. Dont get me wrong i love nirvana as much as i love the pixies but Kurt did get his riff(drums are very similair too but im pretty sure Grohl made them) from debaser. The song U-mass by pixies sounds alot like teen spirit too

  • Guitar riff from 'Debaser'? Go listen to Blue Oyster Cult's 'Godzilla' LoL

  • Wonderful.

  • Mr Black, you are such a wire

  • cobain got his riff for smells like teen spirit from debaser. just listen to the chorus of debaser, its sounds exactly smells like teen spirit. this proves that cobain ripped it off

  • No it doesn't! Two completely different songs! I'm not endorsing or putting down either one, but they're totally different and great in their own way. There has to be at least one lame post about Cobain 'stealing' music on every other Pixies/Frank Black video. Different bands, but great music all the same. People should learn to live with that.

  • so awesome

  • cobain got the "teen spirit" riff from tring to copy bostons "more than a feeling", not a pixies song. listen to the songs...plus cobain said to got it from boston. frank black is a true music man!!! love him and the pixies.

  • thanks for not going mainstream

  • Frank Black..

thanks for all the great tunes..

    pixies or otherwise..

    you are the man

  • Fuck me its rafa. All good even so. The man he knows

  • i don't know how underappreciated frank black and the pixies are. when they went on tour a year or two ago their shows here in nyc sold out months ahead of time. i think they have a giant and varied fanbase that's just out there, of course less noticeable than the fans of big recent acts, but there nonetheless.

  • Cobain admitted that he came up with the riff to 'Teen Spirit' while trying to imitate the Pixies. "This ain't the west... or the wooded East." Sounds almost identical to the Spirit riff. I'm glad that Frank's not a 'hit maker'. Fickle society always destroys the good stuff. This way, he's all ours.

  • ...I dont know that

    very cool

but I think Black Francis IS a hit maker

with dozen of cool and hit songs

but thanks (for us at least) that the crappy mainstream doesnt want him

let the mainstream with the new metal and girl pop crap outta the good music

  • You think Kurt Cobain might have felt guilty for being so popular while this guy who is probably twice as talented kind of fell into obscurity? I mean, this man is a prolific writer up there with the likes of Leonard Cohen when it comes to influence of the modern sound and lyricism. If his look were as commercial as Cobain who knows where he'd be? Maybe dead too. As it stands, he's kind of this doughy ex-fratbro looking dude, who plays and your jaw just drops at how great he is. I like that.

  • Well fucking said!!!

Same can be said for J Mascis. These guys paved they road for so many people, yet they don't get the recognition they deserve. It sucks, but what can you do? At least you and I know great music and talent when we hear it

  • I think the real question is, do you think it bothers Frank?

  • Exactly, don't feel sorry for him. I'm sure that he is happier not being followed around by morons, just plain honest fans.

  • incredible song

  • If i ever meet this guy.......... He gets a hug god damnit!!

The honesty is far too inspiring. Thanks charles, er frank, i mean Mr.Black sir.

  • YES! :D

  • He's playing a free gig in dublin today!

  • Sad, you went on this vid to flame, really sad.

  • This song sounds similar to the works of Van Morrison's early material. He sound's a bit like Van in this. Great!!

  • Fucking AMAZING ARTIST!!!

  • Killer album, followed by amazing work.

    Love ya, Frank.

  • I've always loved you Frank. You are a beautiful, brilliant man.

  • I agree wholeheartedly with the chap what said Frank Black is way better than the Pixies......I can't wait to see him again.

And this song is awesome! What album's it from?

  • Pistolero. Perhaps your stupid ass should have waited until the end of the video to post an asinine comment.

  • Ahaha. I looked at that for a second and went, "Jeez, way to be hard on people", and realized you were making fun of yourself... I'm so thickheaded.

  • That's why he is the best bittersweet guitar hero.

    I love him!

  • great stuff great song thanx frank

  • I'm loving his guitar strap.

And also the strange bit of footage at the end with a cat... haha

  • Frank's solo material is much better than the Pixies. It has to hurt him that people can't get his really great stuff.

  • definitely hurts him. he talks about it in 'Loud, Quiet, Loud'. kinda sad. Pixies, solo, whatever he does, he will always be one the greatest musical talents the world has ever seen.

  • what definitely hurts him?

  • sorry...i was replying to DrBojayHookah's comment about how he's never been able to gain the same kind of respect/popularity with his solo work that he had with the Pixies.

  • yeah it is sad. he is the most underappreciated artist in the history of music

  • It's a measure of how superficial the industry is, and most fans for that matter. He never seemed to want to play into the whole dynamic of having a look or falling into a style categorically. I think he's better for it.

This song is that shit btw. I can't stop thinking about it. I often feel like people hate me and I think about this song and it makes me feel better.

  • why, b/c he's not on MTV everyday anymore?? fans love him (in such a big way) it shouldnt matter how "popular" he "seems". he's one of the best, that's it!

  • sure, as fans we don't care how popular he is. his popularity is probably important to him because it's how he makes his living. it's a shame. this song is bad ass and should be worth a hell of a lot more than the crap most people spend their money on.

  • frank has an amazing talent to grab influences and use them to his advantage without it being considered plagerism, his voice at times sounds like jagger, then plant , them bowie . all the while keeping the frank black style. a genius.

  • anyone that hasn't heard that Pistolero album, get thee to a record store... this guy is an amazing talent. "Western Star", "Billy Radcliffe", I want rock n roll.....

  • Wow I didn't know that Colonel Kurtz played guitar lol.

  • Thank you god for making Frank Black.

  • charles thompson III my favorite songwriter ever

  • This man is a musical genius.

  • Sexual....

  • Pistolero is a great album.

  • z Black rule... nice song

  • Wow! Great performance.

  • colonel kurtz!

  • it's from Pistolero album, if you wonder...

  • does anyone know what model martin he's playing?

  • really amazing

  • Damn. Frank Black makes being a rockstar look easy.

  • Nice

  • He looks a bit like Kyle Gass there =/

  • Awesome, I love the Pixes and Adam & Joe.

I remember the Adam & Joe episode in which they paid Frank Black a visit and issued out some Vinyl Justice.

  • Speechless.

An FB solo acoustic album (not live) is called for and long overdue. May I use this word?

    Yes I may.

    GENIUS.

    Hail Frank! Hail Big Nutz!!

  • Superb.
