  • These guitar players are in the same league with anyone at any style of any time.

  • Randolph's solo definitely reflected "Yakkety Sax" which Chet Atkins had also covered as "Yakkety Axe." Gallopin' Guitar is pretty similar to that song.

  • If you are encluding all guitar players then these guys are not even in the race because flamenco guitar players are in another league.

  • without a single doubt Chet Atkins tastes best.

  • Im goin Roy Clark 1, Chet 2, Reed 3....

  • Don't see talent like this getting together anymore... Unless you count Rascal Flatts and Justin Beiber?? Bahahahaha!

  • Chet and Roy...Los Indios Nashville.

  • The damn bass is so loud, it drowns out everything else.......rats !

  • @fgleich

YES!!! But, you still had the courage and honesty to give a thumbs-up. I wonder why it's so loud and up front.

I agree with you, it's a distraction. Even more so now that you mentioned it!! : >)

  • These gentlemen changed my attitude towards country music forever..

There are screaming guitar players in country music!

  • At this level of professionalism trying to decide who's best is a little like trying to decide whether an apple, orange, banana or strawberry tastes better.

    Big Ron

  • It aint hard to tell who the#1 Guitar Player ever was!

    Chet was #1,

    Jerry Reed #2

    Roy Clark #3

  • @MrCarlHaynes

With all due respect "MrCarlHaynes", in that era (probably in ANY era), I would put Merle Travis #2, and Les Paul #3. Jerry Reed and Roy Clark, in their prime, were excellent "session" players. Arguably, the 2 best.

However, when it comes to new innovations, and taking guitar to new levels, the #1, #2, and #3 I mentioned have to be the 3 best...IMO.

As "Vermillion" mentions, it's difficult to rank any of those 3 (my 3 of course!), as each brought new innovations to the art.

  • @MrCarlHaynes It really amazing the influence Jerry Reed had on Chet Atkins. That influence was passed down to John Standefer. I think the old man was #1 period, but I tell you, Roy Clark was no slouch by any means! Hard to take anything away from any of these guitar players.

  • beats the viagra commerical

  • i got to see mr atkinks in memphis in 72aat audubon park.man what a show

  • Man...Chet and Roy do such unique things to their guitars when they're playing it's hard to tell who's actually more talented. Guess you don't try, just shut up and enjoy

  • got to love it music at its best

  • Hey, that's Johnny Gimble on fiddle - he played with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, 1949 - 1952!!

  • @DailyBrusher

Always get confused with the Texas Playboys, and .Eddy Arnold, the Tennessee Plow- boy!!

  • chp ss fl bss.

  • Chet Atkins, Boots Randolph, Roy Clark, Floyd Cramer, Charlie McCoy, Danny Davis, Jethro Burns, and Johnny Gimble were later acclaimed as "The MIllion Dollar Band"

  • Floyd Cramer, Boots Randolf, Chubby Wise, Chet, and Charlie McCoy... The original million $ band

  • That's Jethro Burns

    Jethro Tull is flute...

    Clark was just sitting in

  • Floyd Cramer, Boots Randolf, Chubby Wise, Chet, and the harmonica player... The million $ band

  • The fiddler is Johnny Gimble.

  • Chunny wise is the fiddler in the original million dollar band

  • I do believe that is Jethro Tull alongside Chet.

  • Didn't know Roy Clark played with Chet. Boots Randolph played Yakety axe by accident I guess, fun to watch.

  • Yes, they did! In addition to the Million Dollar Band segments (FAR too low an estimate for all that talent!) I remember once seeing Chet and Roy do a duet (tht title of which escapes me, but it had the word "Rainbow" in it--not "Over the Rainbow," however). Archie Campbell did the intro. Chet said, "Now, Roy, I want the first part of this tune done right, you understand?" Roy replied, "Yes." Then Chet said, "Well, I'll play it myself!" Roy just laughed and they played superbly!

  • There is an instrumental on one of Chet's

albums entitled "Rainbow". A beautiful tune,

    I might add.

  • Much appreciative for that information, HB1964! It has been probably close to 35 years that I heard the duet I mentioned (I was, ahem, VERY young, then, but weren't we all?!), so I don't know if it was the same piece or not. Do you know if it's still available? The clip I mentioned was, of course, on a Hee Haw show, so I'm wondering if it's on one of their DVD collections.

  • Are you sure you're not thinking about the clip of Baby's Coming Home with Jerry Reed? Chet says, "I'll play the first because I want it done right."

Search for it here at youtube.

  • I know the one of which you speak, chetplayerwhoknows, but the tune I was thinking of has, indeed, been posted by daffydoug (I hadn't found it at the time). And, it's called "Rainbow." It's the same tune that I heard Chet & Roy do on an old Hee Haw show!

I do, however, appreciate your help and input. Thank you! I also have mutual respect for your appreciation of Chet. I raise my thumbpick to you in salute!!

  • I really enjoy listening to this.5 stars.

  • You have to love that great music.....and I do mean MUSIC! Thanks a bunch, Dave
