Eken is a producer of the devices but it looks like it is here to stay for a while at least , they are currently upto Android 2.0 which is downloadable it is 148mb and they are working on a firmware update to 2.1 - 2.2 for the devices. I assume most of the tablets out are built by the same.

Hi Davkem!

Next time you should turn off the lights when trying to show the screen... It is impossible that your cameraman hasn't realised that nothing can be seen, only the reflection of the lights. Otherwise the video is ok. Quality is fine, a bit more of technical details and experience with the device would be great. People want to see the device before buying it.

Plus you should edit the video and cut out the 1 minute long OS loading part before upliading...

@Diabl0pl yeah, it's very easy. download any android software (but not 2.x!), copy the sript folder on a sd card, put it in your eken and power it on. update'll start automatically.

@gje313 Dealextreme and pandawill are not ebay sellers. So let me make this clear for you. You can get it from ebay, or from dealextreme, or from pandawill for 67 pounds. Sellers on ebay have feedbacks and I can guarantee as customer that dealextreme is far from beeing bogus. I don't know about pandawill, but people on the internet say it's legit. Just Google it. :-)

I went on their website and have seen several other version,on shenzai and other sites they have other brands.I use Skyfire browser to play flash on my hd2 i think it also works on android.

To answer to some comments,I would not compare this to iPad, totally different! More an enhanced kindle, running android, bought mine for development/proof of concept stuff, and that's is pretty good for this basic stuff. I did not expect an iPad out of this!! LOL just a great little tool to play around with Android and hoping for some hack to upgrade to 2.0 from 1.6...I might be hoping for too much, but i love to see how creative the software hack is going to be ! Cool video!

I concur with you and your thoughts. This is not an iPad nor an iPad killer.  It is cheap, yet suitable replacement for the lame and outdated Kindle's, nooks, and Sony Readers. The only problem is that most of the ones being sold on eBay and shown on YT are really cheaply-made, low-quality knockoffs that probably don't have a very good battery.

Please, everyone, buy an Android tablet if you want, but don't waste your money on poorly made ones like this one.

I think that after this i will go a step higher with Archos 7 or 8, just did not want to break the bank :) , as far as battery it is going to be on my desk most of the time, so not really roaming too much with it. m001 - Yuk ! very slow frequently freezes as its got so far behind with key presses, no flash 10 so wont play anything off YouTube or BBC news. OK as a 'proof of concept' device and for the £67 I got it for , bloody incredible value.. basic patient web-browsing , OK for showing friends pics of SD card although mine didn't like my 16gb card for some reason...

@wervbn Thanks for your comment however your wrong. This has a 600Mhz processor. It says it on the box and also using a terminal app it reports it as 600Mhz.

Actually, I have to agree with "wervbn", this seems like a knockoff of the Eken model which is sold on eBay. The knockoffs are selling so well that most of the Hong Kong shippers raised their prices by 20 to 50 dollars. I would be interested, but most Chinese goods tend to breakdown or fail with 6 months of buying and using them. Poor quality parts usually.

@Drechsschleuder Hi, I have not tried ICQ so I dont know but MSN works and I know there is an app called Mundu IM for ICQ on android so I dnt see any reason why it would not work if you can find the apk. Not sure about Myspace I dont use it but it does not support flash as such so I am guessing no. As for 3D games, Android on any hardware does not support them so again thats a no.

I have ordered a Moonse E-7001 so there will soon be an unboxing video and a demo so you can compare that one to it. Out of 10 taking into account the value this offers I would give in 7.5. @pulidzz No it does not do Flash. It does do flash lite so you can get the YouTube apps and it also comes with a couple of apps for chinese video sites that are really not that useful to me personally but you can just delete it no problem!

Hello davke, it looks like a really nice device. How is the web surffing speed? I have got a pad similar to that one but with windows ce 6.0 :S It gets to slow with gmail and yahoo. What about the battery? how many working hours does it last? I am looking forward to buy one! Thanks!

@elguaro2006 Hey, Web browsing is pretty good although its no that fast on some pages with loads on it! I would say its on par with my Palm Pre in terms of speed loading pages up. The battery lasts about 2/3 hours, not that great but hey its so CHEAP!

I was the camera man and would like to say sorry for the terrible breathing that can be heard on the film. I have asthma and filmed this on a Pre mobile phone with mic facing me and not hte guy in the vid. :-)

The thing is incredibly low priced!!!

You can't compare it to a much more expensive computer/tablet/slate/whatever­.

It can only be compared to a computer in it's price range.
