Keep in mind that this is "Jannick Top" Magma. Oh it's definitely Magma, and very good in its way, but with a darker, bleaker, more primitive side (Ork Alarm etc.). "Vander" Magma has darkness too, but tends to grow towards the light, with ecstatic and transcendentalist qualities. Which isn't to say both artists didn't contribute to each others' compositions, for the vital years they worked together. But you can hear two streams within Magma, and for me, this isn't the most profound one.

One of the great things about Magma is they prove you don't have to be incredibly loud, distorted, or downtuned to be intense.

Much like Zappa, Christian Vander pushes the shit out of his musicians, but doesn't ask of them anything he's not capable of doing.

@kontarkosz The same thing people pop onto any other music, we look for something new and question it to see what the people who like it have to say, though I expected nothing less than the arrogance the fans of this band have shown. Though one person who responded to my post twice, the second time at least had the courtesy to acknowledge that maybe I just needed time for it to grown on me. I've listened to a few more of their songs and have decided it's not for me. I'll stick to Epica.

Can't agree more with the title. I discovered Magma in 1975 when they did a tour with Hawkwind and Man. They just blew me away and totally changed my views on music. Without doubt the "BEST BAND EVER".

The album version of De Futura is faaaar better. Along with Magma Live's Köntark ( 1975 ), they are Magma's most incredible pieces of music ever created.

Still, I wouldn't say that Magma is the best band ever ( even if I've been a fan since 1995 and seen them many times live ). If you want the best band ever try Frank Zappa who is probably the greatest rock artist of all times.

The thing that makes live Magma so awesome is that they always do some rearrangements or new instrumentations of the songs before every tour, and then develop them a bit on the road too. This (as Bob Dylan and the Dead also knew) is the way of living, breathing music.
