I am writing my law paper over teaching creationism in the classroom. Thank you for posting these videos. It definitely made my research a little easier.
Yeah. It was declared a heresy to teach that the Earth was not the center of the solar system. I believe in God, but I hate seeing religion still standing in the way of scientific progress.
I don't know about you, but the NOVA documentary was way better. This seems to misrepresent a bit of science, and frequently says God VS science, and seems to argue that evolution proves atheism. I'm an atheist, and I know that's not true. evolution doesn't disprove god.
Clarification: Science can act in 2 ways toward Religion. 1. Tolerant 2. Intolerant.
How Science reacts to Religion is based in part by how Religion treats Science. If Religion attempts to attack Science then number 2 seems to be the option chosen.
Tolerant = God cannot be proved or disproved, so therefore Science ignores it.
Intolerant = If something can't be proved then it shouldn't be believed in. (Science 'debunking' Religion)
I agree with you. Unfortunately, many fundmentalist groups who take a literal interprutation of the Bible try to disprove evolution. I believe in God, but I don't use the Bible to explain science. I use the data and supported conclusions of scientific discovery to understand science. To me, many Evangelical Christians have created for themselves a false delima and I appreciate that there are atheist who understand the problem with their logic.
I do agree that evolution does not disprove god, BUT, since you saw the NOVA documentary, the "honest mistake" on part of Bill Buckingham, the burning of the mural (ala Dark Ages), the earlier drafts of "Of Pandas and People", and especially the Wedge Strategy document ALL point to the fact that the fundies have an agenda that evolution disproves God and hence must be eliminated. Why else would they break their own commandments against lying and bearing false witness to push their agenda?

I wonder how many kids will never become scientists because of religious upbringing.

didn't they go through this same thing a few hundred years ago about the earth going around the sun? The religious didn't want that taught either.

Yes, I agree with that. Seems like they are trying to present a False dichotomy.

i agree, creationism is the same as intelligent design and its only purpose is to destroy science.
