A Few weeks later John was off to Toronto for his first major solo gig, then coming home to record Cold Turkey, A song Paul McCartney did not want to do with the Beatles, this is one of the reasons John left the Beatles that Month of Sept.1969, no one seems to point this out but this is from my own research. Also that same month they lost there publishing rights ! that would piss off any one !. Years later the songs ended up in Michael Jackson's hands.
This was the caliber these guys had, made people listen to their numbers, made them think, and later debate.still after the debate left them wonder who and how!
I think Paul does have the best voice but John clearly has the most original voice. No matter who sang lead Paul almost always sang the harmony, theres a reason for that!
@MooseLeader1 This is from Anthology 3. You can get it at any music store. Some people have deconstructed the songs on their own, but this one was released officially.
Been reading comments about who is actually singing on this. It is George, John, and Paul. Each singing 3 times. So we're hearing 9 voices in total, 3 from each of them. Pretty sure that's how it was done based on the research I've done. Hope that clears things up for folks. What a wonderful piece of music! Thanks for posting it here for us all to enjoy.
@shermanmaxwell That's basically my understanding, too, except I don't think they actually recorded the vocal track 3 times. I think they recorded it once and then dubbed it over twice, to get 9 voices in total. Although I could be wrong.
Look why can't we all just enjoy the beauty and wonder of this almost religious experience. That's just it. It's not a song it's an experience. Who needs drugs when there is music? I am forced to close my eyes and just listen to this masterpiece. Same with sun king. You can feel the soul. It may not be "soul music" persay but that doesn't me it doesn't have soul. This is utterly what inside of each of the Beatles bodies sounds like. I might cry.
It's pretty obvious this is all John. Listen to the last syllable cutoffs which don't occur exactly together - the very last one, for instance - you hear several John voices, never the others. If you still don't believe it's just because you're stubbornly refusing to be dis-illusioned. But listen to the evidence.
Then listen to other Beatle harmonies, you can always pick out their individual voices even though John's usually predominates because of his unique "edge".
@pickrhead so you're infatuated with john, don't overdo it, have an ear replacement or better yet, quit using illegal drugs and wake up from you're own disillusion, it's so easy to distinguish paul's voice (which is the best among the beatles) from john which is almost always "screechy shouting" which i think is the only "edge" you are talking about.
@revitupification Paul is easily my favorite Beatle, but I think we're getting a little ridiculous claiming he has the best voice. He may have more versatility in that his range and ability to change his sound is far superior, but it doesn't mean his voice is greater than John or George's. All in all, I would never dare to trade a Beatles' harmony for anything else (maybe Everly Bros, C+N, or Simon and Garfunkel, but no other band or singing group can match this genius)
@TheBabyboomkidof53 The beatles? This is only john on vocals, paul and george was not allowed to sing on this one, yoko wrote the chords then told john to play them backwards and john did 3 or 4 vocals over each other. If you want great backing vocals listin to frank zappa songs!
I believe some of the magic of the Beatles come from their similar accents. Much like the Beach Boys who had 2 brothers who were the vital voices, or the Bee Gees, or the Everly brothers, etc.
@Sincopare - 3 brothers - Dennis had a good voice when he was young and also sang some harmonies on the records. Then he got older and....not so much.
Incident @ L.M. shop. The man at the lawn mower shop said I had lovely balls & I thanked him. Later I demarded {yes, demarded!} to know what he meant by that. He said, “nothing.”
There are a great many extremely talented musicians that have written and performed splendid melodies sung in three-part harmony. And I love to hear them. But this one will always take the cake for me. It's simply flawless.
thanks for posting---makes it easier to follow the separate voices and learn them better...at 1:20 etc. you can hear the guitar in their headphones too!
Can't stop listening to this tonight!
Interesting that it was inspired by Beethoven's "The Moonlight Sonata" and it was the last song Sang together

Too bad we still hear the guitar in the back. But those voices… Wow. Just Wow.
I've loved this song since I first heard it.

@TheMoitah not a guitar, nothing bad either...its common in studio situations...
carlosaglez1 2 days ago
@carlosaglez1 Well… it definitely is a guitar sound I hear.
TheMoitah 1 day ago
@TheMoitah well maybe its the overdubbed guitar from Harrison, but the prominent sound in this song come from a double-tracked Moog synthesiser
