@AXESMI it was considered one of the most important novels of the 19th century and perhaps the thing that kept the union's resolve to seeing the country whole and slavery ceased. Perhaps it could be considered racist if it had been written today but for the time it was commonplace. I believe part of the reason it was written was to awaken people of conscience to the ugliness of it.
@pdxeddie1111 Unfortunately, today "Uncle Tom" is used in a derogatory manner towards other blacks. So the real meaning of that novel is probably forever eroded.
@AXESMI Yes it's Satan's great delight to twist things and make noble creatures seem a thing to to be loathed. Just like the days of old the world is not worthy of people like Tom, they are their God's people and a priceless gem in the swine's habitation.
@Bestmanme08 are you saying that made slavery OK? It did not, as I hope you know! Also, 300,000 whites came north to fight for the Union. The Confederacy was not supported by by a majority of whites. It was a minority who owned slaves who were trying to hold back progress. Slavery meant poverty for most whites because it meant fewer jobs for them. The Confederacy lost, and rightly so. Don't be be a loser by embracing the failed racism of centuries past.

@pdxeddie1111 I checked on YouTube and sadly found that Uncle Tom's Cabin is a banned book. What has happened to Free Speech?
