thats the best way to cycle the action when you first grab a shotgun for home defense. You pick it up & rack one into chamber with the same hand, while the other hand is momentarily free to open a door, finish a 911 call, carry a child, grab more shells, or whatever u may need in that instant.

My Rem 870 home defense shot gun is very close at hand in my bed room in case of a midnight home invasion and it is always in the unlocked position, chamber empty, and safety, off (FYI I do no have any children) But if I were to have children the shotgun would not be anywhere a child could get access to it
