Songs come and songs go, but this one stays atop my list of favorites. The 70's were so memorable for so many reasons, and this is but one of many bright spots, musically speaking.
Thanx for posting this. I forgot about how much I loved this song until reading about former New Seeker member Peter Doyle working with Tarney and Spencer. They also wrote a few hits for--believe it or not--Olivia Newton-John. I wore this record out!
I can listen to this song over and over, it is so pretty, I loved it when I first heard it in 1979, I was 19 living in St. Pete Beach Florida, what an amazing life back then, music, friends, beaches, etc.... no worries, wow, I wouldn't change not one thing, especially, the music. Thanks for posting, x.o NO TIME TO LOSE!!! x.o
My favorite Southern California rock station, 99.9 KOLA radio, played this tune. I'd stay up nights waiting for them to play it. Found this by chance cruising a friend's Last.fm profile. What a gem!
i really liked this song and heard it quite often on birmingham radio back in the late 70s. later, upon reading chart history, i find that this only hit as high as 70-something in the top 100 chart...badly overlooked song...A big shitty fail for radio overall missing the boat and not putting this in the top 10, same can be said for Tarney Spencer's other hot 100 entry 'it's really you' coming in at only #86.
@kevinv1964 I actually thought this song was by Triumpf back in the day..I too remember this song on WLS...I believe 890 AM. Do you know where I could find Animal Stories??
KSLX in Phoenix, AZ gives this excellent song plenty of airplay. People request it all the time. KSLX DJ Steve Trella has this album in his big collection, and likes to play it for KSLX listeners. Same thing for other cool, less-played tunes.
Alan Tarney and Trevor Spencer are two Australian guys who were in a band called"The James Taylor Move" along with the great guitarist Kevin Peek,in 1967.Before that they were in a band called "John Broome and The Handels",also with Kevin Peek.
One of those songs that brings back memories of all the great FM stations that would give bands like this a chance. Still love this song. Bad dubbing on the video, but it's still cool to have it here.
God this song is great....another hidden gem.I remember seeing this on MTV back in 81 n loved it.Is there a legit reissue of this album? I would get it anybody out there know?
great long lost song from my h.s. days. There's something very distinct about the sound that really made it stand out back then. Soemthign technical maybe, for any pro's who might know, about the mix, reverb, or other effects--something giving it a very smooth sound.
I was sitting at my desk at the office and thinking about how I'm supposed to get everything done that I needed to. I thought to myself, I've got to get on it, I've got no time to lose. Wait. That's a song. I come to youtube and here it is. Thanks for feeding my need.
Great song, Had forgotten all about it. I live in radio hell. Not a station within a 100 miles that would even play this. Not one classic rock station will play anything but their everyday rotation. Not that the rolling stones, acdc, aerosmith, van halen are bad, but sure would be nice to hear something different for a change.
I don't know what it is, but when I hear this song, it reminds me of my child hood back in the 80's. I'm not sure if this was when it was released to the radio??

@Rcfuss Sorry but I can't respect or accept rap as music. People talking over a song is not talent! The same way i dont' respect Frank Sinatra who basically did the same thing.
@ladybug4evermore i love music too and had radio as a kid would hid eit under my pillow and play it low close to ear and heard all great 70s songs and have alot of vynil and cd rock on
i never use this to comment, u can tell from my lack of thought put into my name. anyhow i've had this song saved in my bookmarks, as well as many others. bucky u r dead on! im 28 n have been old school since i was 13 n my dad got me some floyd. love this song! another forgotten classic is ride captain ride by blues image. my personal favorite song is time of the seasonby the zombies. rock on with purpose and intent!
Even though this song was released in 1979 it was the fledgling MTV network that gave it extensive airplay for the video in the 1981-1982 timeframe. A timeless classic for sure..
Waht's wrong w/today's kids?! All this great music (including these forgotten classic rock gems from the past like Tarney Spencer) & they're still tuning in to top 40, bubblegum, hip hop, emo, college rock/alternative & all this other watered down crap from today!! Not even 200 people here for this great song & over 2000 are posting at some crappy song/vid by Dashboard Confessionals which prompted me to return here so I could hear some real music for a change!! Today's kids are a sad case!!!
@bucky468 Think it's more of each generation wanting to call something their own ....for ppl like u and me, we had the 70's, 80's to call our own which, lucky for us, were blessed with incredible music and artists (eagles, cars, police, boston, gordon lightfoot, cat stevens, foreigner, billy joel, elton john to name just a few). So feel a little pity fot the children of today....they are saddled with having to call eminem, puff daddy and britney spears as their "great music"
Actually it's not just Brit & Diddy. Today's artists that are considered "hot" (by the current generation) on pop radio, MTV & VH1 consist of Katy Perry (nearly 20,000 ppl are posting on youtube at 1 of her hit vids "I Kissed A Girl (& I Liked It)"), Natasha Bedingfield, Jonas Bros, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Katharine McPhee, Jordin Sparks & P!nk (or as far as I'm concerned "St!nk") - all which suck & will never be as good as the legends & wonders from our generation. Ours is better!!
Look up cdbbq. In addition to No Time To Lose (Alan Tarney/Trevor Spencer), other great songs from the Run For Your Life album: Far Better Man (Alan Tarney) Don't (also by Alan Tarney) An excellent cover version of Lies (Billy Randall/Beau Charles) originally by The Knickerbockers and A Heart Will Break Tonight (Tarney/Spencer). Check out the Cliff Richard's cover version on youtube. It's pretty good. Tarney/Spencer Band is: Alan Tarney: guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals/ Trevor Spencer: drums
I feel lucky to have a CD of Tarney/Spencer Band Run For Your Life. I was a baby when it first came out. When I was a teen taking guitar lessons the teacher had No Time To Lose on a cassette tape. I tried to find it on CD. It was out of print. I found a man with a barn full of Vinyl Record albums. I found 2 Tarney/Spencer albums. Run for your life and 3's A Crowd. The man had a machine and we made a CD of Run For Your Life. If it's ever reissued I'd buy at least 10 copies to give out as gifts.
Because A&M/UMG is stubborn. They won't even let reissue companies like Renaissance, Wounded Bird, Collectables & American Beat reissue the album to CD for them. UMG just wants to let the albums collect dust. I wrote UMG 3 yrs ago & still have yet to hear from them which ain't gonna happen. UMG doesn't care about its consumers & that's highly unfortunate!!!
You probably got a German import which is super rare - Good for you!!!!
BTW I'm still holding hope that this album makes iTunes. I wish I knew where Alan Tarney is these days & if he can reached through cyberspace via Twitter or MySpace. Maybe he can strike a deal w/UMG. That may have to be the bargain chip for this ever to happen!!
Wow.. thought I'd dreamed this song existed, as can't find it anywhere. Hadn't heard it since '79. Damn good.. great beat.. wishin' it was on itunes..
@11b3vw8 i remember when this song came out in november of 79. they played it at this restaraunt/bar my sis and bro in law owned. great food great music late 70s whats not to like eh?
This is what is know as a turn table hit. It never made any of the Top Ten lists but when the radio stations play this the phone lines would really light up when this played. Great song
@TheDevilOfKimon this would in the opening scene in my western move set in 1886 one yr after the Civil War !! 3 friends tring to make money in a destroid economy !!! sound familier ??HAPPY NEW YEAR !! 69 VADER.
I don't know why I didn't check here sooner for this, but I've been wanting to hear this song again since 1982! One of the first videos on the once acceptable MTV. I've loved it since then and can't get it out of my head now. Thanks for posting it!
I have a 7-inch vinyl single of this song, which was edited for a more radio-friendly playing time. What a treat to finally hear the album version (which I think I like even better!). A great tune that should have been a much bigger hit than it was.
I think it's saying the past is gone, don't cling to yesterday. Nothing lasts forever so when the time comes for something that was good to end, let go as quickly as possible and try to live in the now as much as you can. All we have is today. Try to be like water and just go with flow. This is much easier said than done, that's why when someone writes a great song about it, it sticks in your head.
it's funny you should say that. i guess when you love someone, but they don't feel the same way about you. eventhough, you known them for a long time. countless dinners, hanging out, flowers, gifts, whether it be : birthday's, christmas, valentine's day, or, just to let them know, they're soo special to you. i made it in my mind. that, the new year would be a clean slate. no more " spoiling & pampering ". just respect the " frienship ". go my own way, do what is right for me. no one else.
True. But i don't think it's only about romantic relationships either. It could be the end of a close friendship, and not necessarily in a bad way. Like maybe one of you gets married, or has to move far away to pursue an educational or career opportunity. Or it could be a special group of friends. What 1st came to my mind was a nightclub I worked in about 20 years ago & what a tight group we were. Then one day it closed. We went our separate ways. But I did think of a couple former lovers too.
I have the this album (shown at beginning of video) Any time I whip this out and play it around anyone they plead for info cuz this shit is great. Similar to early Fleetwood Mac when they were good. Tarney did work with Cliff Richard also that was quite good
Wandering YT, saw Spencer Davis, thought about some old band blank Spencer, then Tarney finally came to mind, and had to search Tarney Spencer. I haven't heard this song in maybe 25 years. Always liked it and used to have the 8 track. Thanks for sharing.
Never heard it, thought I was goin' to hate it - its a freakin' HOT SONG ! After burnin' out on all Classic Rock heres one from that era (noted/remembered for the excellent song writing skilll(s) - fresh, shiny and new !! The drummers set sounds smokin' and he obviously put a little thought into how he would play the song (unlike many pop/rock hits).
Thank you for posting this !! Now if I can just find about 20 more like this i'll be set for another 30 years !
You'll find these on my favorites pages: 707 "I Could Be Good For You" Shooting Star "Hang On For Your Life" Dwight Twilley "I'm On Fire" Paul Collins Beat "On The Highway" Kim Mitchell "Go For Soda" New England "Don't Ever Want To Lose Ya" Sugar Loaf "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" Planet P Project "Why Me"
You can send UMG a personal message via its youtube channel. (UMG) apparently blocks e-mail messages sent via its home page. I tried several times & failed. I wrote a business letter a few yrs ago & never heard back from them. I even wrote UMG in the UK, Canada & Australia - again no reply!!
Heard this for the first time in July of 83 in DC. Was there for a meeting. Came back to OK and much later heard it here. I know the date 'cause I found out later that daughter #1 was conceived during that trip!
Nah, this was playing every morning when we woke up to the hotel clock radio. Mostly heard the chorus there, didn't put it together with the intro for months.
Yeah there's a real video for this. Someone threw this together. The real video I saw on here had some rollerskaters, but the version is a little slower then this one which is a bummer because I remember it this fast unlike the real video posted on here.
I have the 8 track. (WHOA!) I have the original vinyl LP, unplayed. I had the cassette but someone stole it. Dunno if there's a T/S CD out there. Now if there was ever a VH1 'bands reunited' THIS would be it.
First heard this on JJ radio and bought the album on the strength of it. Only played the album a couple of times so it's still in virtually mint condition. Not bad album at all.
one of the best songs I have ever heard. I heard this song about 17 years ago and you cannot buy this song at a music store you can only download off internet.
You can send a personal message to Universal Music Group (A&M's parent) which has its own channel here at youtube!! All you can do is try!!! I would but I've posted so many negative comments at some of their own vids that they probably know me & they'll say "screw you"!! But what can it hurt?!! Go for it!!!
All songs on this album told a story...hence the way the cover looked...it was a musical romance novel so to speak...it rocked one of the best, I slip this tune into cd's i mix for people, it is the one that always gets the attention
Just searched Itunes and it's not there. I always knew there was something obscure about this song...luckily it wasn't the title. Great song that was underplayed even in it's time. Now I have to find the MTV video I saw 1 minute of once back in the 80's.
I can't count the times I have requested iTunes get this song. I would LOVE to have this on my ipod. The video was great and I would stop in my tracks when it came on MTV back in '81. I wanted this album so bad but was flat broke at the time so I hope at some point iTunes gets ahold of the whole collection.
These guys were made two of my favorite records of all time. I never imagined I'd find anything from them here. I still have the albums on vinyl, but I'd give just about anything to have them on CD!
Memories!! I haven't heard this song in over 20 years! Wishing I could get ahold of a cd of this album!!!! This was definitely a good song for getting through some really lousy times!!!!
This is the GREATEST song to drive a truck to on I95 Between Elizabeth, NJ and Richmond, Va.!!!!!!!! This is also THE WILDEST streach of interstate in America. Yes, I've been to LA, Chicago, Houston, and every other interstate in the country. I95 is the wildest. Love this song.
I remember this song- It was on their debut LP that originally came out in late 1979. But this song, "No Time To Lose," didn't start to recieve any airplay until early to mid-1981.
Saw a vidio of Greg Le mond at the tour de France when he won on the last day in a time trail against louren fignon ,greg beat the shit out of everyone!
Wow!! It's been ages since I've heard this . I used to own both their US releases on vinyl. Maybe not the second coming of the Beatles...but a damn fine rock band none-the-less. Was shocked to see wat this record now fetches on the open market. Excellent song writers.
Not to mention huge hits from the 80s like "Take On Me" by A-Ha!! He had a big hand in the making of their 1985 album "Hunting Hi & Low"!! He also helped w/Cliff & Olivia Newton-John's duet "Suddenly" from the "Xanadu" sdtk I think!! Tarney was more than just a singer - wish I knew where he is these days so I can personally thank him for giving us fans this song!! If UMG or iTunes won't listen to us maybe he will!!
Songs come and songs go, but this one stays atop my list of favorites. The 70's were so memorable for so many reasons, and this is but one of many bright spots, musically speaking.

So feel a little pity fot the children of today....they are saddled with having to call eminem, puff daddy and britney spears as their "great music"
nobodybutme1000 2 years ago

Why cant we purchase this cd?
bnelson40 2 years ago
Because A&M/UMG is stubborn. They won't even let reissue companies like Renaissance, Wounded Bird, Collectables & American Beat reissue the album to CD for them. UMG just wants to let the albums collect dust. I wrote UMG 3 yrs ago & still have yet to hear from them which ain't gonna happen. UMG doesn't care about its consumers & that's highly unfortunate!!!
bucky468 2 years ago
Really a shame. I was able to find the CD on Ebay in Germany. I got it and its really good. The sound of the Cd is excellent.
bnelson40 2 years ago
You probably got a German import which is super rare - Good for you!!!!
BTW I'm still holding hope that this album makes iTunes. I wish I knew where Alan Tarney is these days & if he can reached through cyberspace via Twitter or MySpace. Maybe he can strike a deal w/UMG. That may have to be the bargain chip for this ever to happen!!

I have a 7-inch vinyl single of this song, which was edited for a more radio-friendly playing time. What a treat to finally hear the album version (which I think I like even better!). A great tune that should have been a much bigger hit than it was.

can anyone tell me, the meaning to this song ?. it has a great melody. but, what's the song trying to say ?.
fervent66 2 years ago
I think it's saying the past is gone, don't cling to yesterday. Nothing lasts forever so when the time comes for something that was good to end, let go as quickly as possible and try to live in the now as much as you can. All we have is today. Try to be like water and just go with flow. This is much easier said than done, that's why when someone writes a great song about it, it sticks in your head.
sheLovesG 2 years ago
it's funny you should say that. i guess when you love someone, but they don't feel the same way about you. eventhough, you known them for a long time. countless dinners, hanging out, flowers, gifts, whether it be : birthday's, christmas, valentine's day, or, just to let them know, they're soo special to you. i made it in my mind. that, the new year would be a clean slate. no more " spoiling & pampering ". just respect the " frienship ". go my own way, do what is right for me. no one else.
fervent66 2 years ago

Best place to start would be at the All Music Guide although they're not all that accurate on the rare, rare stuff.
bucky468 2 years ago
I have an idea (actually 2) what song you might be looking for. According to AMG there is no song titled "In Green Eyes" so here are a couple options.
Bob Welch "Ebony Eyes" (1978)
Payola$ "Eyes of A Stranger" (1982 & featured in the movie "Valley Girl")
"Ebony Eyes" is at iTunes. Don't know about the Payola$ track.
bucky468 2 years ago
@bucky468 thanks for the input. I must be wrong about the title. It was a long ago, but I remember the chorus being the lyric "in green eyes".
guitarmax99 2 years ago
It could also be "Hungry Eyes" by Eric Carmen which is on the 1987 "Dirty Dancing" sdtk. I believe that's at iTunes.
Another possibility is "Angry Eyes" by Loggins & Messina. Came out in the mid 70s. I think that's also at iTunes.
This song - when did it come out (what decade) & who does it sound like to you (what popular artist)?

Not to mention huge hits from the 80s like "Take On Me" by A-Ha!! He had a big hand in the making of their 1985 album "Hunting Hi & Low"!!
