I secretly practiced riding my bike in our small back yard and shocked my parents when I jumped on it and rode the thing like I'd been doing it forever.
Well done Jodene. My 3 year old is going solo tomorrow and I'm surfing the Tube for handy tips and inspiration from other Dads. Her unscheduled dismount gave me some confidence.
I removed the pedals and allowed her to feel the balance of the bike first while propelling herself with her feet on the ground. 20 minutes of this, then replaced the pedals. I didn't have to run behind at all, just coached her from a few feet away. It worked great. No serious falls now after a year of riding!
