@1993harnden The box should be built for the sub. There is a recomended cubic feet of air space in a box for a sub, both ported and sealed. If the box is a little small you can add some soft foam to make it seem a little bigger. But, just building a bigger box if it doesn't need it doesn't mean it will make more bass. Getting more usually means better subs and more power.

Is it better to have excess power to run the system, like a computer, or is it better to have the "just right" amount of power.  I recently got a system and am getting into the whole car electronics genre and I feel like I'm going to need a new battery given I have a 500/1 JL slash series amp and a 350/4 slash series supporting 4 boston acoustic speakers and 2 tweeters and 3 10w3 JL subs. I just have the stock battery in it now and am about to replace it, Good idea to get an XS bat?

A good price range for 4 18's is in the 1 to 2k range amps well run you about the same then a new high performance alt,wiring and battery bank plus box so maybe 3.5k minimum doing all the work yourself and wiring everything but then you also have to think of mids and highs which will need an amp or two plus more wiring ..in the end its a lot of money so look at arnd the 5k range at least

BASSHEADS: i have my components wired to the factory amp in the headunit, (16x4) and my subs wired to an amplifier in the trunk. the remote wire is hooked to a toggle switch in my dash. when i turn on the the head unit, i hear a click sound coming from my frong right speaker, and it won't play the music on the track.... but when i turn the amp on it plays the bass track through the subs. i rewired everything behind the deck and it doesn't work still. what's wrong with it? please help a bro out.

Ahh, so they're maintenance free batteries. I couldn't really get a clear view of the tops of them in the video. (The old batteries that you took out.) That's weird that they went completely dead, to the point of not even registering, with no warning. Oh well, it's all fixed now and that's all that matters :D
