And I didn't even remember the whole movie, until I saw it in Nostalgia Critics "Top 11 underrated movies" list and immediately went "OH GOD, I totally forgot about that movie.."... 28 years old now and I used to watch this ALL the time as a kid :)

Trouble is with a lot of CGI films these days, its more about special effects then the storyline, so if they were to remake Flight of the Navigator, it may end up with awesome special effects but lack the soul of the original. I think we may have entered a period where sci-fi and horror writers can become lazy because the CGI effects can put in the spaces and viewer interest where before the writer would have had to have written a good script al the way through.

Yes, just yes! And do you know why? Because this movie had a hook for a sequel that hasn't been used. And making a sequel of THIS movie now doesn't work because you would need all the actors to be as old as they were in this movie. So, in order to continue the story, they must remake this first.
