Running Dual Italy 285 E6's, 248 CG's and building a Dual Shanghai 2380 C2 here and yeah Opterons have one thing in common they never crash even when highly stressed, they just remain cool and do their thing.
@Paxmax yeah its funny and very informative to... who knew that the itanium chips can double as a stove..... and yes the opteron is better compared to the intanium, and much better compared to the current xeon line ups.. go AMD..
@hootis8 We'll see... only time will tell, but the Opteron has been abondened really, and is failing. AMD keep losing money. I miss the Athlon days, back then all AMD products were awesome, but they lost it, regardless of if you like it or not.
@HighTreason610 well its superior all-right... it could double as a stove if that's what you mean, performance wise its still a pentium... its useless
Nice video!! To those retarded Intel Fan Boys Stop Logging in multi Accounts and spread your childish comments and what Saywhatsit saying is true there are no 128-bit processor in the world yet plz do your study b4 coming and start spouting about things that u dun even know about it.
As for "old" technology, there is still enough of P6 (Thats P6 architecture, not Pentium 6, for the digitally challanged.) inside Intel's chips to make it "older" than AMD's chips. Before you fire up your flame, this is a GOOD thing. The P6 micro-architecture, starting with the Pentium Pro, was/is the most successful CPU architecture in history for a good reason and Intel engineers proved themselves worthy with the work they have done with it.
First, the morons spouting off about Intel Core 2's being 128 bit, NOT. The Floating point arithmetic operations, SSE integer instructions and vector processing are 128 bit. NOT THE CPU. Repeat, THERE ARE NO 128 BIT CPU'S. If your going to comment on CPU micro-architecture at least get the basics right.
The only thing that is being changed to 128 bit is the width of the SSE units in the processor. And no, they arent copying core 2, its called upgrading your design. There are plenty of other things being added that arent in core 2, and are far better than it.
hmm, if AMD think that megahertz really doesn't matter, how come i heard the rumors that they increasing their barcelona lunch clock speed?
And btw, it maybe AMD does invent amd64 but one think Intel is right - we DON'T need it for x86 desktop/server invornment just yet. Even today theres no solid reason to move your desktop to 64bit, let alone 4 years ago.
I think they should hold on this video until they can make Core 2 quad processor feels like a snail with only 1 watt of power.
You're right about the clock speed warz. However, I think there will be a return to them on both sides before too long.
AS for 64-bit, this video (and the Opteron)was targeted at Datacenters/multi-user db type operations which really DO need 64-bitness for memory access reasons if nothing else, but which also allow for very large data sets. The Itanium was and is a sluggish piece of junk compared to the x86-64 CPUs.
I miss the days before amd/cyrix, when Intel chips commanded the $1,500+ price they rightly deserved. The rampaging ignorance in here is pretty refreshing, and by refreshing I mean retarded.
(beginning:)@ the 64 Bit Licensing thing that goes here around for ~20 posts. Well, YES that is ONE thing INTEL had to licence from AMD (erm what about the erm 1000 things AMD had to licence from Intel (not only MMX,ISSE 1,2,3...) ISSSE, (maybe in future) hyperthreading etc...)...
(cont:)One said AMD will fully break Intel monopoly. Well they had the time since they had the better architecture from 2001-2006, but erm... it didn't happen. Stop it Fanboys I don't want to be flamed by u. I am not a Fanboy, I just say it how it is: Intel has so much money behind adversiting etc, that users that don't have a clue about Hardware (about 99% (or more I guess if I read the comments here))
(cont:)will be really thinking of Intel to be a choise, even if it wasn't one the last couple of years (well fore SOME things it was, but who of you have an Intel P4 and really just uses videothings or rendering blabla or whatever the best discipline of the P4 was??).
(cont:)So and than back to the Video: it is not really funny. It is seems so Fanboy-made it is like the start of an Intel vs AMD Fanboywar on Youtube. They talk about the past where Intel had their Itanium promises. Itanium is still the leader in some parts, but where is AMD? It is just a cry for hope. There are 1000s of mistakes Intel made in the past, but exactly the things the video points out, AMD made wrong until P4.
(cont.): but as you may know, Barcelona won't hit the masses until mid 2008 where Intel already prepares Nehalem, the next-generation after Core 2 Duo- so you should look for 2009, where Architecture AND prod. tech. is very good of both, as well as both hit the masses with a made-for-it multicore-architecture. I am more looking forward to who is in front of the other by that time, than the very first benchmarks,
(cont.):which really say nothing as the other is always ready for a response and 2009 i BET will be a year of big decisions, even if ther isn't that big step ahead in micro-arch. It is just the decision who will really be a step ahead in multicore-architecture (yeah and I know they exist since 2003 (HT) or a bit later(physical multicore by AMD), but this is the time CPUs really MADE for this task, will hit the masses...)
The CPUs really MADE for the tasks are already the ones we have now. Only the task you speak of does not exist. Hasn't it always been the natural course of things that the hardware was one or two years ahead of the software?
I think you will find that all of the next generation windows servers will require 64 bit extentions. All of which were developed by AMD and licenced by intel
