No cheating. I like the way those runs sound when played legato-style. Alternate-picking in those spots would have sounded a little too aggressive, and this tune is supposed to be mellow.
The guitar is a mongrel Fender Stratocaster that I built myself: 70's style rosewood neck, Texas-Special single-coil pickups, gold left-handed bridge, ash body, gold machine heads. Best guitar I've ever played.
I would like to say here one thing dude u r such a good artist and yet so down to heart....rare combination i would say..keep up the good work..my 5 stars to u..
Thanks! But after seeing your video, I realized that I've been neglecting piano players up to now. If I learn how to play the keys one-tenth as well as you do, I would be a happy guy. As of now, I'm barely functional on piano. Keep on posting those videos!
The tone of that strat just really soars... it has a good pilot at the controls... that's a huge part of it. You would make most any guitar sing. Carry on!
Thank you! My Stratocaster has Fender Texas Special pickups. For this video, I used my POD amp emulator plugged directly into the sound card of my computer.
If You recorded the song in this arrangement and it became soundtrack in a David Lynch movie, You would sell 500,000 copies. I really enjoyed this piece - well done!
That was awesome! amazingly clean technique, and I love the jazzy parts in the solo(some of it sounded slightly flamenco influenced as well?) 5 stars from me!
Wonderful tribute and terrific performance! I love the feeling you put into your playing. Nice sound too! I've had a guitar for 12 years but maybe played only 6 of those. Thanks to you, my passion is definitely rekindled and I'm now practicing this very song (SRV style). All the best to you, man!
Hiya Klasek, I stopped by to visit, and rediscovered this video. It is beautiful, you play with great feeling, and sensitivity, and I thank you again for the honor.
Thanks very much for the posting. That video was inspiring. Your playing is a fine example of how less is more- a real soulful maturity. You're right on about this new medium being an inspiration to all and re-invigorating old players of all kinds. I find myself pulling up a stool and playing along every night. Too cool.
Thank you! I've always had an appreciation for guitarists who you can recognize after hearing very few of the notes they play. (Albert King and BB King are perfect examples.) Carlos Santana described this approach as "getting inside the note and putting your fingerprint on it." I'm happy to say that there's no shortage of players on YouTube who live by that motto.
I love the patience you have when you play, and way to use the thumb...most guys overlook that little detail for a tune like this. Can't wait to see more!
Thank you! Yes, the thumb is the key to playing a tune like this. It gives you a nice warm tone. Wes Montgomery was the king of this style of playing. Hope to see more vids from you too!
Klasek, you are a class act! You played so beautifully here, it is very moving!
I am so proud, and honored to be your friend, thank you so much for the honor you have bestowed on me. Your music is beautiful, and I will be watching you closely over the next few years, I suspect great things will be coming from you!
That was just awesome man...so many great guitar players here that have inspired me also...at the click of the mouse I can check out many different styles and gear..and try to steal some licks..LoL..You-tube rocks!!
Hey bro!!! i totally like your scoops.. its a great interpretation of Chitlin , you have given your soul to it....
Cheers!!!

...or is this the Kenny Burnell version?

I had Stevie Ray's cover in mind when I did this, but I love Kenny Burrell's version too. I'm forever a student of them both.

Thank you! Now that you mention it, some of this does have a little flamenco flavor to it. The tune itself has a bit of a Latin groove to it.
