@caitlynjenna1234 ....his tail has obviously been docked at the second vertabrae. It was cut off, straight through the bone, presumably when he was a few days old. As is common for Belgians, Percherons, Clydes, Shires and other drafts. It USED to serve a purpose of keeping their tails out of the driving equipment, now its just for looks, and cruelty.

@yeaahhful It's not just braided, it's docked. The horse's tail bone is usually at least a foot long on a horse that big. They amputate the majority of the tail, usually to keep it from getting caught in the harness. Personally, I don't think it should be done unless the horse is consistently worked in such a way that it is needed for safety. It is illegal in many countries because it takes away the horse's ability to swat flies, and it also removes a piece of their ability to communicate.

If that's 20hh then the guy leading it must be a giant too. I've met in person two GENUINE 19.2hh shires (I have worked with draught horses for years) and tbh this guy doesn't look that big. I owned an honest 18.2hh 1/2" gelding and even I couldn't see over his back at 5'9".

@NinjaArt91 They dock them when they are young like they do certain breeds of dogs, THEN braid them up for shows etc. Sounds mean, but it actually is so their tail doesn't get hung up when they are hitched up to a wagon for example. I prefer them to have their natural tail. My Belgian's tail is not docked thankfully! But I also only ride him.
