My dad knew John Barnell (the guy talking) and I had chance to meet him. He told me little bit about this incident. Believe it or not, the passenger (the female) actually did survive the impact but died either before help arrived or on the way to the hospital. The producers decided to claim both were killed instantly to add to the shock value to the already brutal crash. I was also told the driver (suspect) was pretty much turned into 'liquid meat'
I wonder if that truck driver was deaf...did he not here the sirens....no matter if its green you must stop...when people try to cross the green light before the car come near...thats when fatalities like this happen :(

With only 18 tiny patches (relative to the size of the truck) of tire actually touching the pavement to stop it. At 55 mph it takes the full length of a football field to stop it.
It was NOT the truck drivers fault. Doesn't matter how fast he was going, the light was green for him. The teenages shouldn't have stolen a damn lawnmower... and ran a red light. As least they died instantly. So stop blaming truck drivers.. Idiots.

A bit of information about that truck and driver. The driver was a trainee in a TMC company truck. It took them 6 months to get get him behind the wheel again. And the two in the pick-up were killed instantly.
The goon driving was going to hit the breaks, until he took an arrow to the knee.

@fufu52 Did you not see how fast they were moving? There was no time to see or hear the sirens or lights in time to even think about stopping! If he was fully loaded, then he weighed 40 tons. With only 18 tiny patches (relative to the size of the truck) of tire actually touching the pavement to stop it. At 55 mph it takes the full length of a football field to stop it.

It was NOT the truck drivers fault. Doesn't matter how fast he was going, the light was green for him. The teenages shouldn't have stolen a damn lawnmower... and ran a red light. As least they died instantly. So stop blaming truck drivers.. Idiots.

A bit of information about that truck and driver. The driver was a trainee in a TMC company truck. It took them 6 months to get get him behind the wheel again. And the two in the pick-up were killed instantly.
